In your case X-flow sounds like you want a cheap nippy car. But bang for your buck, Zetec, yes the initial outlay is high but no more than a good spec X-flow and you still have to buy manifolds and bits and bobs for it. Once its in if it goes bang your on the phone to the local scrappy £100 and a few hours later bish bash bosh another 130hp motor. Period is good but there is no harm in moving with the times.

P.S Luke261 if you have a nice big bulkhead cut-out already you could whip out the lorry engine and slip in a XE..........Ill get me coat.... :D

Guys.....

People keep saying the Zetec is 130bhp... and yes they are in a Mondeo or Focus (also RS1800i fiesta, XR3i & Cabrios)

But when you get them on a pair of 40's on an 1800 or 45's on a 2.0 they are 155bhp & 165bhp respectively.

Add some cams and you are up near 180bhp

Its easy, reliable power.

depends on £££££'s

Zetec because its modern and has 130bhp almost stock and the poss to advance to 150 / 170 bhp with cams and bolt on goodies

Xflow because its cheaper, still get a good 130 / 140 bhp and sounds awsome at 7000rpm

Take it from a man who has spent the best part of 3500 on a zetec conversion and its not running yet........

I think the xflow will suit your budget/criteria better

3500 on a zetec conversion it must be a monster zetec mate mine stands me it about £650 750 tops thats including the throttle bodys and the ecu even the gearbox and 400 of that was from the sale of my crossflow and 2000e box.

mega squirtnspark but if you for this you will have to do a lot of home work and i mean a lot of home work but worth it in the long run but if you want a easy life and your a millionair then go emerald.

hhhhhmm? i do want the easy life but not a millionare

It's ok though i think i am gonig to be using carbs so i think i just need megajolt?

To be honest homework is all i seem to be doing at the mo (it's like being back at school) I really need to spend less time on here and more time on the escort

Weber silver kits are 1700 quid for starters

then nearly a 1000 for sump, engine mounts, water rail, alloy rad, electric fan

Thats without gearbox RS bellhousing new clutch etc

Oh and 150 for an exhaust manifold

8) I'd stay with the pre-xflow all the bits are there and if i can get 125bhp from a 1200 hundred then get a 1500 hundred and get just a little bit more, that and they're not that pricey to build speak to Joe at http://www.throbnozzle-racing.co.uk/Clients/Clients.htm . I have to admit i like both x-flows and zetecs/duratecs but there are costs with both which you wont have with the pre-xflow..

The realistic cost for an easy zetec conversion is about £2000. Thats how much mine cost and thats with Retro Ford bits to get the engine in, Emerald ECU and motorbike throttle bodies on ST170 manifold. You say you like the sound of an xflow on twin carbs at 7000rpm but a zetec sounds just as good...

I'm the scabby looking green mk2 racing Gaz's minty blue pinto mk1  Completely internally standard, have it!

P.S. from the sounds of your situation the xflow seems like a better bet but you can't really compare the two engines as they aren't in the same league really (really helps having the extra 400cc). Oh and blimey more than 100bhp/litre from a pre-xflow, thats better than most engines that age, not even a pinto can manage that!!
