4parajon Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Whats the best way then?? Ive heard/read somewhere you need to get the arch warmish using a heat gun and then jack the wheel up and using a bar between the arch and the wheel roll the wheel back and forth, this should prevent any paint damage??? Opinions please
Dale Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 we cut mine with an angle grinder. did the trick. best way would be heating it then use proper bit of kit. i suppose it would work though
Dale Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 ohh.. i suppose what the paints like on the car too.. mine need redoing so wasn't too bothered about messing it up. if its tidy though.. i'd prob look at getting it done professionally.
john_3.0s Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 there is a propper tool some body shops will have that bolts onto the hub and had an adjustable arm (in length and compression) and a nylon wheel on the end that pushes up against the inside of the wing and rolls the lip back. you adjust it, roll it back and forward a few times then keep adjusting up the compression unill the lip is rolled right back

Mick The Cabbie Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 http://www.frost.co.uk/item_detail.asp? ... h%20Roller http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/wheel-arch-roller ... 7C294%3A50 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Arch-Roller-fende ... 7C294%3A50 There was a really good vid on YouTube with a Porsche 928 having it's arches rolled with a bar between the tyres and arch whilst the driver moved the car foward/backwards. It's no longer on there though
mk1super Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I was told rolling arches increases the chance of rust any truth in that?
james1700 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 it creates a fold of metal for moisture to settle in. my arches are rolled back, sealed over and heavily loaded with waxoyl
Retromotorsport Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 cutting the arch ??? the rear 1/4 is joined to the inner shell by a series of spot welds around the wheelarch ... cutting the arch removes this..and your relying on 30 year + seam sealer to stick the 1/4 in place. I've seen some lovely ripples across 1/4s because of these ..but continue to do it ..as it means i fit arches to cover the damage ..
jay Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 ahhh it'll be mint! you mean a polo mint... with a huge hole..

Might have, you will have to wait & see wont you Since I put this post up Ive seen the tool that you bolt onto the wheels as shown in the youtube vids, should be fairly easy to make one once Ive bought the nylon wheel, will have to look into it. Ive found a company that will do the work on the web called archenemy they charge about £100 for 2 arches but there no where near me.

Dr Dub Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 I have use of the tool but to be honest, i have never sucessfully managed to roll an arch without the paint cracking - tried everything and would love to see someone prove me wrong - I'd just carefully manipulate it and ensure you seal the new lip etc
