fostersice Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 ok been very happy with the work the painter has been doing on my car until today ive gone down to have a look as its almost finished as im looking round theres bits in not happy with but may polish out so let them go then i get to the front of the car and the front wing dont line up with the bumper on the rhs then i see as the bunnet is down it hits the rivets in the wings i lined everything up before it want to paint but asked if he could sort out the fixing plate for the front wings as they looked shit so at extra cost he told me he would replace the metal and line up the wings anyway he mounted the l plate on the out side of the wing not the inside so its now 2mm closer to the bunnet line and the rivets hit the bunnet edge and as the wings dont fit wright now the front nose panel is out when i asked about it he said its the best he could do on lining it up but leave it with me and ill see what i can do?!!!!! im paying £2200 to have the car painted inside and out and i told him i will be showing to car so didnt mind the £2200 price but now ive got the hump its not like its a cheap paint job im having
baz105e Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 threaten him with trading standards if he doesnt sort out the fookups !
Admin Vista Posted July 8, 2009 Admin Report Posted July 8, 2009 Always a bummer to be dissapointed in a job. Incidentally I think £2200 is quite cheap for an inside and out paint job especially if it includes prep work. I'#ve been quoted almost double that for my project
Darran Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 £2200 is very cheap !! Try offering more money!!
fostersice Posted July 8, 2009 Author Report Posted July 8, 2009 I told him what I wanted done a price was given all I want is what I was told I'm getting for my money
stephens_xpack Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 A side from your grumbles - It will look fookin ace when it's complete.....Absolutely love an x-pack !!! That is super fine.
fostersice Posted July 8, 2009 Author Report Posted July 8, 2009 like i side its just a rank its the nuts just need to sort out the mistack on the front wings im sure it will be sorted just a shock when i see it
zetecmk2 Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 90%of paint issues can be polished out, maybe a local blow in here and there. these things are expected in a total respray, he should be able to sort it when you're putting as much work into a car as you are into yours, expect this sort of thing, but don't get p*ss*d off, just get it sorted
4parajon Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 You need to sit down with the fella and discuss it with him. If your not happy now its no good waiting until you go to collect it, you need to talk about it now. I think the price is irrelavant to be honest unless you bartered with him in the first place. If you told him what you wanted and he told you a price and it was agreed then he needs to address the problems. Good luck and hope you get the car finished as you wanted, looks awesome in the pics
SAMMYBOY Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 We`ve just had the latest type of ovens fitted in our workshop..at a cost of nearly 1/2 million quid for 3.... Our painters still have to polish stuff out etc. especially on a full respray.....The extraction is now taken down the way, instead of upwards, which helps....£2200 is a good price, when compared to Central Blast or Escort Agency prices....
antz Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 weather its cheap or not it should be a good job.
andy a Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 As someone else said the price is irrelevant, if a price was agreed for a job at a standard then that's what you want, after all its what was agreed for the price. Moaning on here isn't the way to sort the problem, that can only be done by politely and calmly sitting down and telling the guy doing the work as quickly as possible, never take anything for granted with a trade, if your not happy tell him. If I were him and had had the customer over for a look and explained it how I saw it and received no feedback from the custie I'd think that they had settled for that, and I'd be proper pissed off if I logged onto a forum and saw my work being griped about, not knocking you at all, no doubt your disappointed but get it sorted the right way Nice looking project by the way
SAMMYBOY Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 I agree with above......If we ever have any customers not happy, we always ask for the chance to rectify, before they take it further..plus its always something simple...most can be done there and then to be fair.....Its hard to please everyone, as some people expect an awful lot nowadays...and you must admit, old cars aren`t the easiest to line up panels on etc..
Admin Mk2Jo Posted July 9, 2009 Admin Report Posted July 9, 2009 I agree with 4parajon and andy a Sit down, speak to the guy calmly about what you were hoping for from them By the way .... i think the colour choice is superb Really suits the car
PIG Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 fook its a green version of mine,i paid over 3 grand for my paint on mine.as said have a calm chat with the fella about it
over_head_cam Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 No matter what you paid, he agreed to do the work and get paid for it. As above, I'd have a chat with him and explain these points and that you're not happy. If he gets arsey then tell us as I'm sure he'll love that reputation spread about
capri71 Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 I'm sure it will all be sorted for ya - nobody stays in business long doing a crap job and not making good.
JAY PS Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Looks very nice but its very cheap at £2200 ,have a chat and resolve the issuses before it gets out of hand like the docs capri !
mk1super Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 £2200 maybe cheap to some for others thats quite a wad of cash to hand over, especially in our current financial climate, and you expect a decent job doing how ever large or small. Theres alot of painters (Both car and bike) who seem to be slap dash these days all in a rush to get onto the next job, nobody seems to take pride in there work any longer I hope these issues are resolved sharpish!
dannyb Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 i'm restoring a rolls royce at the moment, the guy pop's in has a look and if he see's something he doesn't like or he's unsure of he tell's me and i then sort it out. he is the customer and he will get what he wants, your lucky with the price you have been quoted, the rolls is costing this guy £11k
capri71 Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 i'm restoring a rolls royce at the moment... ...£11k I'd be grinning like that too if I could get paid £11k for a couple of weeks work, and a couple of hundred quid on materials Mine has gone up since they started 3 weeks ago cos i didn't prep it in the end and they found a bit more welding to do. It probly gonna be about £2500 when its done. That on a reduced rate as a low priority, gap filling job tha probs goning to take another 3 weeks. If I'd wanted it done in a hurry, it would me more like £4000. I looked at cars theyd done before choosin them - thats the safest way.
Conor Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 £2200 is seriously cheap and even moreso if you've not supplied him with original panels and he's having to make pattern parts fit. For example, virtually all pattern Mk3 Capri passenger wings are too short by 25-40mm. It took the guy who did mine THREE DAYS just to fit one wing and have something like a reasonable door gap. Pattern parts are shite and they're never gonna line up properly in a month of Sundays. The best you can do is an acceptable compromise.
over_head_cam Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I still reckon the bloke agreed to do the job for a fixed price. He should have done it right. If this wasn't the case then there are issues you need to iron out with the bodyshop (not us )
dannyb Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 i'm restoring a rolls royce at the moment... ...£11k I'd be grinning like that too if I could get paid £11k for a couple of weeks work, and a couple of hundred quid on materials try 6 months and counting, it was rotten i will see if i can find a picture.
MaximusPrime Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 2200 cheap? tbh if he quoted you that he shud do the top of what he quoted yoy, as its his reputation going onto the car, its apart of his rolling portfolio once its done, so you would think theyd put eveything into it if they want more customers, unless he doesnt really care for his trade?,
