Europe here we come

I wondered how long this would take - I have a friend who used to do track days in La Croix in France and said about 5 years ago - "you should take your car over there - they'd love it - theyre not allowed to modify thier cars out there."

I had a feeling this would be on it's way....

I don't know how it would affect Classics though as some parts aren't available standard

THE CAR !!

andy_saunders_bentley.jpg

And some of his builds over the years....

http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en ... =0&ndsp=20

I think as said this is not going to happen to us all but some of us could end up going through this ... the box on the mot is going to be the one that finds you & then starts the ball rolling ...again too many people with each an idea on what is & what isnt worthy of having all that shit thrown at it/you !!

If you own an OSF (or anything) that has lets say an engine swap only, you should be ok (if its on your v5c) but add in your 5 link rear & front suspension mods, 2.25 conversion & adjustable tca's & your car can no longer claim the points it needs to keep its v5 !!! BE WARNED A FOOKING BIG STORM IS COMING (this is & has been the case for years but its going to hit hard now)

As for Andy he is a realy nice guy who i cant help feel sorry for, cos i see no reason all this shit & other crap of recent times keeps getting thrown at him :x

that's what i was thinking!!!!

looks like i'll loose all my v5's then

i see an increase in track cars coming :(

No FOOk um, take ya grandads stock escort for its mot with your plates ect, then put the ID back on yours :shock:

hmm i wonder how the likes of rally cars etc are going to be affected as they need to have an MOT etc... fook it ill become a tester and test my own cars it aint modified honest

The problem it seems to me is that the ppl involved dont have any understanding or mechanical background especially when it comes to older vehicles. The MoT tick box sounds like its to be avoided at all costs but even the MoTers dont seem to have a clue. The bloke (young lad looked about 12) who tested my escort was looking for rear seatbelts and an ABS light until i politely pointed out he was a bit off the mark  Get a numpty like this (nice enough bloke but no real idea about older cars) and your stuffed. How many younger testers would identify a 4 link kit and arches as non-standard; anyway couldnt you get them modified by the main RS dealers from new anyway? All sounds like a very grey area to me with two 'real' objectives; getting older cars off the road and generating a new DVLA revenue stream.

I think you will find many of the new rules came in from the EU and because of our car culture we have here, this is the test we've ended up with which could have been far worse. Though I dont doubt that the DVLA have turned it into a money maker by charging the extorinate amount for the tests. I dont think it is a bad thing as such as some of the cars that I've seen and some featured in the mags in the past leave a lot to be desired when it comes to safety. You also have to remember we've had the points sytems for plate retention for a good number of years operating mainly with in the kit car and special side of things. I think also a number of recent accidents/incidents have led to the recent enforcement, most notably the Land rover going into the river and killing 3 kids in Lincolnshire last year. I gather the LR boys have bit hit quite hard as a result of this.

sorry if i am being dim but does this not only affect new cars not the old ones

It affects ALL cars (plastic crap included) , most of what is going on has been going on for about 10 years the point is what the kit car boys go through is what we SHOULD have been doing too but because we have a v5 we never bothered so when your mot comes due and that box gets ticked ..... the shit hits the fan big time

The dvla are using the right to revoke a v5 more & more ie 2 number plate offences & they can revoke it !

They also want a milage cap on Historic vehicles so you cant use them as a daily car to not pay your road tax !

The "chipping" of number plates is again under testing !

With ANPRS ANY camera can be made to spot your car almost anywhere .. any time

So if you still have your head in the sand, now is to late cos the fan is on !! as it only gets harder from now on ...If your building a car BUILD it to pass an IVA test

have a look here....

AND the IVA manual

so if an osf declaires his modern engine in his osf, does he/she get their v5 taken off them and given a SVA test?

not from what i understand cos the car still makes the points up with its other original components to keep its original plate but i think the engine is tested to its year of emissions so a 97 zetec on 40s wont pass an emissions test what ever you put it in !

Its a minefield but they dont just take the v5 Andy's case seems to be an extreme but from what is on the dvla sites and others the next couple of years are going to be a wake up call we have got away with a lot but the mot box will end that !

The sva test is gone its now the IVA http://www.ampar.com/pdfs/SVA%20to%20IVA%20leaflet.pdf

The vehicle is tested to which ever is older, for example the Zetec engine emissions in my Anglia are not tested cos the Anglia was registered 1961. If you fit a Zetec in a 82 Cortina it will be tested to emission standard for 1982.

Hell blue, where did you see that statement about capping mileage for classic cars. I've never seen that proposal. It would be impossible to police, as everyone would just dis conenct the speedo.

was talking to some one about this the other he said that the uk tuning market is worth over 6 billion pound a year yes 6 just imagine all the tax that government claim its all gonenow all the jobs millions i bet easily is just gone now they should just lock us all up in prison cos thats what its coming to

just seems a bit pointless what if u get a friendly mot tester ur sorted

FIVA defines a historic vehicle as here ...

http://www.the-ace.org.uk/fiva-define-h ... hicle.html

so we are now in a grey area ? nothing may ever happen but they have talked about it befor & now its been defined & as ANPRS becomes more wide spread it wont be inpossible to police

The tuning market one is one i have talked about too but most of the red tape is in force now & the tuning market is doing very well on it ??

In the iva manual a pre august 1975 vehicle needs no metered emissions test then the metered test comes in oops

We'll all have given up driving before that becomes so widespread enough to worry about. I think they're more likely to stop cars of a certain age driving on certain days before it got to that stage as it would be easier to police.

This no different to the current MoT

I feel a mass protest/petition coming on! I imagine just about every member of every forum would chip in! I think far too often us brits just assume the position and take it where the sun dont shine. Seems on the continent idf they dont like something, they act, as we should!

This has serverly fooked me off! Seriously considering just giving up and selling the parts i got cause by the time i have finished the chances of me ever being able to use the car are so slim it seems pointless in trying
