tim Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 check the metal between the number plates
andygfc Posted December 23, 2006 Author Report Posted December 23, 2006 check the metal between the number plates well it's a start i suppose bloody kids
tim Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 no problem mate to get pics online look here http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=27805 have you got a link to the ebay sale
Admin Vista Posted December 23, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 23, 2006 Is it this one? Just looked at the name of the winning bidder, unquestionable that it's you Link: - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... otohosting If so my best advise would be to take someone along with you that knows T49 shells well. People on here have differing opinions on the T49 shell, but one thing that can't be argued against is that an RS with a non genuine shell is worth significantly less money. If we are talking about the same car, one thing that is obvious from these pictures is the lack of strut top reinforcing plates as seen here on my car.
andygfc Posted December 23, 2006 Author Report Posted December 23, 2006 Is it this one? Yes that's the one. I must admit that was one of my worries, the strut top plates as you mention. Obviously there are other areas to check, I know some , could do with some advice on others. What about price, good ?
Admin Vista Posted December 23, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 23, 2006 Depends how much work it needs mate, it seems reasonable and mint ones can fetch £11 to £12k. Is it complete in terms of engine running gear trim etc? Have you been in touch with the AVO club registrar to see if it's on their list? Last taxed in 1993, and DVLA show it as orange rather than red. The enquiry is complete The vehicle details for XPA 793N are: Date of Liability 01 11 1993 Date of First Registration 06 08 1974 Year of Manufacture Not Available Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2000CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour ORANGE
andygfc Posted December 23, 2006 Author Report Posted December 23, 2006 Engine is away having some work done. The guy sounds genuine and helpful ( but then he would be !!) not tried Rs registrar, would appreciate a link . Going to view tomorrow morning I take it vista is red then not orange.
Admin Vista Posted December 23, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 23, 2006 try the RSOC and the AVO owners club and see what details they have AVO club http://www.avoclub.com the RS2000 registrar (stuart) worked at the AVO factory that built the cars before it closed down and is both helpful and knowledgeable. Give him a call between 6 & 9pm on the mobile no on the contacts page of the website. RSOC http://www.rsownersclub.co.uk/ I've never been a member of this club but I think Tim who answered earlier is so he could probably point you in the right direction for who to ask. P.S. Vista is orange, but the bodyplate in the photos is for Sebring Red (also an AVO colour) I wouldn't worry about the colour though as lots have been changed over the years (including my own which was originally black) Purists sometimes complain about it but I say I like it
andygfc Posted December 23, 2006 Author Report Posted December 23, 2006 Thanks, how do you manage to check these things out, post pics and reply, all in the space of time it take me to type a reply
Admin Vista Posted December 23, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 23, 2006 Thanks, how do you manage to check these things out, post pics and reply, all in the space of time it take me to type a reply practice from too much time at a computer. Believe it or not when I first logged on here I couldn't work out how to do anything and gave up. By the time I came back to it I'd forgotten my log in and password and ended up joining again. Stay involved on here mate it's a great friendly forum and there are lots of people with plenty of experience and good advice to offer.
mk1mexico Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 The way i look at it is a good mk1 shell can fetch 3k nowadays so i think you have got a bargain whatever the history of the car. It looks nice that colour scheme is my second favourite on a mk1
johnny_h Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Does the seller know you are coming to look at the car before you part with the cash? Someone won my escort on ebay and came down and decided he didn't want it and it nearly ended in physicals.
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 The top plates have been repaired with normal repair sections , there's tons of other ways of spotting a type 49 shell .

Someone won my escort on ebay and came down and decided he didn't want it and it nearly ended in physicals. He's advertised it as a genuine type 49 shell, only fair that it is I think.

It is only right that it is as advertised, but Gaz is right, reserve judgement till you've seen it and lets hope you're pleased.

Although so long as it looks and drives good why should I worry. 10 years ago I wouldn't have worried, but now that I'm older and wiser

Yep he can't argue with that!
Admin Vista Posted December 24, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 24, 2006 So how was it, is it a done deal?
Rick Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 i wouldnt bid on anything like this on ebay. its all a very messy situation without seeing it first........ i wont give my opinion on the t49 shell but if its advertised as that and its not then you arent obliged to buy it id want a magnifying glass an magnet on the thing before i placed a bid all looks good in pics but as we all know cars can be rotten under all that paint! some found out the hard way
andygfc Posted December 24, 2006 Author Report Posted December 24, 2006 went to see it and it wasn't what it should be and the pics were well chosen!!!
james p Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 went to see it and it wasn't what it should be and the pics were well chosen!!! did you not take it then its round the corner from me, what was it like may give him a cheeky bid lol
Admin Vista Posted December 24, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 24, 2006 went to see it and it wasn't what it should be and the pics were well chosen!!! Sorry to hear that mate, I'm assuming you didn't buy it then? What was the problem?
andygfc Posted December 26, 2006 Author Report Posted December 26, 2006 Apart from being reshelled into a standard shell at some stage, two wings needed, wing rails bodged and painted, top mounts bodged over and overall shabby (a lot more besides). The guy said he bought it 5 months ago as an original, he seemed an honest chap, but I cant believe anyone is that naive!!
BIGKEV Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Some People - what will he take for it then ?
