space heaters

went to spray the project today had 6 heaters and something that goes up to 400 degrees,but still hot enough....fuse flicked over in the end so it was no go ...any one think that a space heater will get it hot enough to spray it

Don't use gas heaters mate, they chuck out too much water and can cause paint defects due to condensation

im in shit street then.......already a month behind target....need it sprayed so i can finsh the last bits off and get it mot etc so my sister can drive her new restored car...i got to somehow heat a double garage up....any ideas

as over head cam said any type of gas heater will give out to much moisture you need a dry heat like those plug in electric oil filled radiators but might take quite a few to heat up a double garage and cost abit in electricity

i painted all the underside,inside and the bay of my pop last xmas and it was as cold as this and i had no problems!!! just make sure that the fires are pointed away from the area that you are painting to try and limit the chance of the vapour (overspray) igniting,

Them Halogen Infra-Red heaters are the way to go if you can afford 'em..

 

They don't heat the air, only the target you point them at, so no heat is lost due to convection, etc.

do u know what sort of temp you got it to?....i was using oil heaters and others on for about 3hrs but it still wasnt warm enough plus the safty switches kept swiching the heaters off

we've got a gas one - its not the best on ein the world and i wouldn't paint with it near also it makes you go all HIIIIGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

i have one small gas blowheater and with that got the double garage to about 70 degrees, i brought a large roll of polythene from wickes and lined the roof first this acts to stop the hight going out the roof and also stops any debrit falling as the heat rises and dries the usually ddamp roof space,

I use a space heater and have had no probs, always warm area up before painting, turn off while painting, and then put back on, not pointing directly at car, to bake paint.

 

touch wood never had any probs

really wrong time of year for spraying being moist etc ......but im on a deadline...so it must be done this year.... not long left now ...this is a new garage so not much stuff up above but its quite a high roof...so i might block that part off to keep the heat to the area below

I have just had my whole car resprayed inside and out and the guy had one of those gas space heaters, and my car came out MINT! no probs at all he does about 2-3 cars a week with it, it's his living so must be ok!

my dad got a massive central heating unit out an old motohome. our garage is like an oven thios xmas

 

also have a wood burner in the corner but the neighbours dont like the smoke... ah well
