285Andy Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 if there made by lucas. im suprised you get that much miles out of them. they are CACK of the highest order. lucas parts arnt like they used to be. made in china these days i think however, if your using some other make then i have no idea
Lukey Posted August 15, 2009 Author Report Posted August 15, 2009 intermotor? still cheap shite but should last longer than they are!! lol
over_head_cam Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 I know it's a silly question, but are you running a 12v coil?
Lukey Posted August 15, 2009 Author Report Posted August 15, 2009 yeah mate, since i got the car about 3 years ago the first service i did on it i replaced all that, new coil, condenser, dizzy cap arm points etc, the condenser lasted abput 18months originally, since then i've been using up the uk's supply!!!!
over_head_cam Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Normally your points ignition system runs on about 9 ish volts. Has the feed to the coil been altered? Is this the time to go over to leccy ignition?
bortaf Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Running 12V all the time will burn out condensers and points they are only designed for 9V
bortaf Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 That's what I said  so you did must read entire post before answering, on the plus sside you was right ya know
over_head_cam Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 Does that mean great minds think alike? Or the fools seldom differ?
escort21 Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Luke the ballast resistor is in the original ignition wire on a tina, if its been replaced then it'll be unballasted, check with a meter across the coil should be 12v on start up and drop to 9 once started

TwoLitrePinto Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 had the same on my capri, was due to 12v leccy ignition coil on there. swapped it for a 9v coil and never had a prob after
