It wasnt actually the get away car! My dad was bidding by phone in 1998 as it was the weekend of the Mk1 O C National Rally and bid up to about £20,000 i think it sold for £30,000 something|?

A good Mk1 lotus would be worth in the region of £25,000-£30,000.....Concourse obviously alot more....

This car is the holy grail for the lotus cortina boys , I remember them

 

telling me last time it was up for sale they went and had a very good look

 

at it because it was so untouched since the sixties , a proper time

The Lotus Cortina belonged to Bruce Reynolds, who masterminded the 1963 heist.

 

His gang stole £2.6million in Mentmore, Bucks, after using the sporty white car to recce surrounding countryside.

 

It was impounded by police and kept in a lock-up until 1980 before being flogged

IV met the owner and been to see that car and the others in his collection.i wont say where for obvious reasons.but that car is still stunning.

yep as lotusless says worth what its worth part of are british history for those who still value it

little bit of history bout the robbery my friends dad found one of the bags they droped after it happend rember seeing it (many years ago) like one of those doctors bags that opens up.. was only a lad at the time ummm wonder if it still had money in it

any way its not a case of it being minter then mint lotus cortina its 100% origanal unrestored 3k cortina + look at the history i would pay the money might have to do a train robbery first

All the pre aeroflow lotus' had ally doors boot and bonnet

What are the earliest Mk1 Lotus Cortinas worth then. Is there any that were built on Pre A reg? I've been to look at a customers car today that works at a Lotus specialist. It has the old 3 numbers 3 letters reg on it.

they were launched in 63 so there could be an A

i read in the sun this morning that they where asking 100k for it. but then again it is the sun lol

Was that the owner who has just sold it or the new owner.Do you know if it has stayed in this country or gone abroad.

LAST time i saw it the owner was from the south west of england.that was about 6 years ago.at that time he had about 10 lotus cortina,s left from a much larger collection.dont know it has changed hands since then,but i enjoyed being shown around.this was the car had a good look at it with the history and pic,s of it with the owner with bruce renolds.

i also new the old owner who had it for years in devon

he once took all his lotus cortinas to powderham castle by lorry had his own marque for them

didnt even start one to put it on the transporter

that was about 10 year ago and the last time i saw his collection

i believe he bought it from the police, being the second owner, i could be wrong
