GJUK Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Firstly. My next house with have a moat with killer whales in it and cannons to keep people away but at the moment I live in a nice semi dethatched house, in a reasonable area. The said household which is causing a problem (which I get on 'okay' with) has its own driveway. The property not attached to me also 'shares this area'. I'll explain further. Here is a 'to scale' image which is not to scale. The red squares in the middle of the driveways are holes where an old divider fence used to be, splitting the two drive ways for each house. You can see the neighbours car parked over this leaving room for her precious children to exit her family wagon without hitting her house. Moving past it can often be a pain in the King the round ones, as I drive a very large ‘58 mondeo estate company car. Next door have two cars. I have two but the escorts in the garage all the time. I'm getting fed up. It's not a King shared driveway, its mine. The lady of the couple seems to think that its okay to park over these dividers, not blocking my drive but making it hard for me to get past, should I want to get to my garage. My thoughts are that this is my drive way. I should be able to park WHEREVER on it I like, whenever suits me. I’ve always parked cautiously and with them in mind. If she's having problems parking in such a way that I can NOT do the same on my site (ie mirror her car (as they'd be in each other)) then this is just being down right self centred. As of today. I've started replicating her poor parking. The next step will be to put in the old fence which will really piss them off as the kids will have to be dropped of prior to parking up. What do you all think. She never stops me getting to my garage but it makes it hard work.T hey're a family of 5 in a 3 bed house, which are spilling out on to my land. /rant over. Love you all. Jon mwah.
baz105e Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 put the fence back up dude its your land do what you want with it ! either that or if its parked on your side of the divide then if it were to get damaged then it wouldnt be your problem
Mr Sam Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 a new fence would be the best bet, but you'd just need to find out who owns that particular boundary you may be lucky and it belongs to them and they have to pay for the new fence
over_head_cam Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 CHAINSAW THE FOOKER IN FOOKIN HHHAAAAAALLLLFFFFF Sorry, I had a bit of a moment then I'd say 'Please don't park on my drive. I paid for it, not you. Thank you'
GJUK Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 a new fence would be the best bet, but you'd just need to find out who owns that particular boundary you may be lucky and it belongs to them and they have to pay for the new fence 3 for the fence vote eh. Hmmm Well it's my boundary, the back fence is anyway on that side so I guess I could just drop one in without too much bother. It's been taken down due to the issue with cars getting wider over the years. Going down this route though really would be a 'one way' thing and I think they'd be pissed off quite a bit My dad said to casually mention "oh im thinking of putting the fence up again, to improve the way the properly looks..." If they said "oh no way, this would stop us parking over there" I could say "oh really, well you shouldn't be parking there anyway..." Might try that route. Play dumb. Hmmm.
baz105e Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 your dads approach sounds the most neighbour friendly
GJUK Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 your dads approach sounds the most neighbour friendly Yeah. I'm sure they will object saying how it will limit access etc etc. But I'm not sure they can stop the fance being put back there. The original fence holes are obvious in the concrete drive way. I don't want relations to break down over something soo simple, but its properly doing my head in. The other option is the 'head on' approach I guess.
GJUK Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 That's it, just ignore me Chainsaw. Got it
Daggle Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Why not just explain it to them in the reasonable way that you have on here , sometimes a gentle chat has the desired effect...
over_head_cam Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Why not just explain it to them in the reasonable way that you have on here , sometimes a gentle chat has the desired effect... Wise words
GJUK Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Why not just explain it to them in the reasonable way that you have on here , sometimes a gentle chat has the desired effect... Me to doris "hey how are you, nice day isnt it..." doris next door "yes nice." Me to doris "oh god, sorry if my cars a bit in your way... (being sarcastic)" doris to me "yeah, not as bad as my parking though..." me *stares at her car...* me "no I guess it couldnt be that bad..." she wonders off. Hint after hint. Bored now and I've given up. I'll be nice about it but I think dome chain link fence is going up soon.
over_head_cam Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Just politely say that she can no longer put her car on your drive
GJUK Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Just politely say that she can no longer put her car on your drive Torn between the two options now. Argh. Moat and killer whales are next on the DIY list.
caprinerd Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 think the zoning laws will applie here scratch her car as its on your land and it shouldnt be so she cant cliam also put a notice up saying property left at owners risk then your covered
Copey Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 when she is out park your car where she normally parks hers, make sure all or your car is in your drive, and see what she does
Daggle Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Again, say to your neighbour, "I hope you don't mind but could you please park your car so it's not in the middle, it's just that I have trouble getting my car past and I don't want to end up scratching your car as I squeeze past" Most ppl are reasonable so long as you are polite.
MM77 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Cant you just park yours on the line for one day, so then she'll (hopefully) realise what a PITA it is for her (and therefore you). Then lightbulb, "mmmm maybe I should park a little bit over from now on"
MM77 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 New idea - Leave an oldskoolford.co.uk sticker on her car. - She'll join the forum and read your post - Then she'll think "that situation sounds rather like mine, perhaps I should move over just in case i'm annoying my neighbour also". Job done
GJUK Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks for the replies. I thinly we will see how she parks tonight. If its on the. Boundry again I've decided to tell her to change her. Parking method.
mk1mexico Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Cant she reverse down the drive so her kids get out the other side, and only momentarily use your space whilst the doors are open? Or is doris + reversing a bit much to ask
FredTransit Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I ALWAYS reverse onto my drive, you are not supposed to reverse out onto the public highway off private land. Our next door neighbour parks on next door one's drive cos she's such a bad driver she can't work out how to do it, and her son is not better, so it's not a male/female thing!
