Mr Sam Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 impossible to put into words, if you have clicked this thread you have abviously heard about the one that has strugled back to the skies and is stil on a knife edge whether it will stay in the sky or nt and is very much publicly funded i may be a little hippy/punk etc and not quite agree with what it was designed and used for........... carry nukes to bomb some shepards but at the end of the day its a very british plane and is something we should all be very proud of.......by that i mean it was one of the last planes to be complteyl built by us and the fact it spits out lots of excess fuel and makes loud sexy noises sideways..........sound familular anyway i decided saturday i would have a day off from drag racing to finally see it at close quarters in the sky where it belongs and i was not dissapointed not the greatest of pics but i think it shows just how low it was flying, for such a large fast plane it can slow down and be so gracefull the power up and make the ground shake!!! they even rigged up some pyrotechnics as if it had dropped a bomb history at school was IMO.........BORING but this is living history i hope you apreciatethings like this that helped make this country what it is/was oh and it would be rude not to.... include a few pics of the other display aircraft we take for granted as they are at every air show every year and ill just point out this was not anair show this was 'the victory show' heald in rural leicestershire they even had a mini airstrip in a farmers field which the hurricane landed and took off in.....you simply would NOT see warbirds taking off from grass stips like that anywehre else, cant get anymore authentic
zetecmk2 Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 great!!! i've donated to the vulcan charity and seen it a few times this year. last year, it was flown in low g displays due to maintainance costs, but the other week at blackpool, the display seemed much better! have the boundaries been moved this year?
tt capri Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Good pics mate ! i saw it myself as it was waiting to go to Sunderland airshow it was circling off the coast directly in front of my house . On a slightly different note the Vulcan i saw before that one was when i was a kid at school and it was on fire , the crew bailed out and it crashed in Wingate about 3 miles away but that was a lot of years ago .
hellblue Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 The vulcan is one big old bird when you stand under it ! & it could carry one hell of a payload too ! lets hope it stays in the air where it belongs .... No vulcan pics but we had this lot fly over at last years great dorset steam fair ... (dont think i need to put names to them )
pauln Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Memories of a time when we could build an airforce without buying kit in. 2 great names gone with the Vulcan (Avro and Bristol).
mk1super Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Great pics seen a vulcan years ago at Raf Leuchars and it was amazing
Admin Vista Posted September 10, 2009 Admin Report Posted September 10, 2009 On a slightly different note the Vulcan i saw before that one was when i was a kid at school and it was on fire , the crew bailed out and it crashed in Wingate about 3 miles away but that was a lot of years ago . That would be XM610, did you ever read the story of what happened? http://www.neam.co.uk/wingate.html
pauln Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 The Vulcan is'nt the only vee bomber that should still be flying. The Victor just wants to fly. Total respect to the 70year old pilot that managed to put it back down without pranging it. http://www.theospark.net/2009/09/video- ... ff-by.html
Trevmk3 Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 yeah the vulcun is an incredible sight when flying remember seeing them at the airshows when i was a kid
trakevlyn Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 I saw the Vulcan bomber earlier this year at RAF Odihams family day and it is indeed a magnificant plane here are a few pics There are a couple of Electric Lightnings and a Phantom at Bruntingthorpe too but there not allowed to fly them as the government think there as risk to national security But they fly them in South Africa as private planes
tt capri Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 On a slightly different note the Vulcan i saw before that one was when i was a kid at school and it was on fire , the crew bailed out and it crashed in Wingate about 3 miles away but that was a lot of years ago . RossMK2 Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 saw that raf cosford was sitting in a eurofighter at the time noise it made was amazing
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 My dad loves the vulcan. I've seen it a few times over the years. It's always amazing to see.... Now the Lancaster. My gran built those at Avro, where Leeds/Bradford airport is now. A few years ago I was driving up the A1 north and I heard this load roar. It came into view flying a couple of hundred feet above the A1, and followed it for a few miles. I opened my sunroof and all the windows just to hear those beautiful Merlins roar. I work near Linton-On-Ouse air base, and trainer planes are always flying around. A few months ago, the red arrows were practicing overhead. Another time I heard four prop plane fly over, and I thought it was the lancaster. I ran outside and it was 'just' a Hercules.
Ken B Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Not seen the Vulcan in action for over a year now since it flew over our village, which is actually not allowed, they're supposed to fly around it!! I'm off to East Kirkby Museum(nr Skeggy) this Sat, which is home to the other Lancaster that works but not allowed to fly. This is probably the closest you will ever get to a Lanc firing up, and tbh honest I'm suprised they get away with it in this day of H&S, as you are only a few feet away from the props. But its bloomin awesome and well worth it. There is also a staged dogfight on sat between a Spit and a ME 109. Cant wait.
petrolhead Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Thanks for this thread, this stuff really floats my boat I have to agree about the Lancaster and merlin roar. Absolutely iconic sound (possibly to do with watching too many Sunday war movies when I was little). I remember getting ready to board a Herc at an RAF base when a Spitfire landed and parked up. There was loads of stuff around, Blackhawks, apaches and Tornados. Guess what everyone on the airfield gathered round to see?
mk2Jordan Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 is that the plane where the 70 year old flu it and his friend pressed on the throttle
Admin Vista Posted September 12, 2009 Admin Report Posted September 12, 2009 is that the plane where the 70 year old flu it and his friend pressed on the throttle  No, that was a retired Victor, another one of the V bombers It was only supposed to be a fast taxi Here's a formation flying shot of the three V bombers, Victor at the top, Valiant in the middle and Vulcan at the bottom.
Mr Sam Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 they got into no end of trouble for that didnt they
BIGKEV Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 I used to have part of a Vulcan Dashboard with all the knobs and whistles in my bedroom as a kid. There was one on the RAF base that they used for fire practice and me and my dad went into it one day and got some souvenirs
