Why is it so many places put people in charge of things that they have little or no knowledge about? And how do these dumb dumbs manage to coast through there jobs without ever being found out?????

My old manager had a saying "perception is reality" and i've never heard a better saying...

These dumb dumbs appear to work hard and because of this they must be.

It is a legal requirement that my premises are routinely inspected.

The inspector comes around, and is certainly being paid a great deal more than me, probably twice as much and likely even more than that. He will also be part of a private health service of some sort, naturally also on a very generous pension scheme, no doubt he has about 6 weeks paid holiday a year etc etc. None of which I can afford being self employed. When he gets here, he talks absolute the round ones because he has no idea what it is he is inspecting, asks the most ludicrous questions, so ludicrous that it is impossible to answer as there really isn't an answer, then makes even more ludicrous suggestions of "improvements".

Part of what I do involves heating stuff to 70C and keeping it there for 20 minutes. He says I should record the temperature every time. Can anyone tell me how writing 70C 25,000 times would benefit anybody other than the pen makers?

Then after me being nice as pie, as helpful as I can etc, he goes away and writes a shitty report and then publishes it on the internet.

Now if somebody comes along and knows what they are talking about, inspects my place, points out where I am going wrong or how I can make improvements I would be delighted to meet them. The clueless divs that do turn up just boil my piss!

Love this thread.........It still never fails to amaze me how much one can find this in all sorts of organisations......

The best rationale I've heard for this sort of thing is called the Peter Principle.

Wikipedia talk about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Principle

but this is much more readable

Once you've grasped the concept, look at your workplace and see how much clearer life becomes :D

just watch the film 'office space' and all will be revealed!

it never fails to amaze me the level of incompetence some ppl exhibit in trying to undertake tasks you would assume are essential to carry out their core duties as an employe. The civil service / MoD /NHS are particular examples where it almost becomes 'normal' that nobody can make a decision (from my own experience). Promotions seem to be made to move people out of harms way to the extent where they are completly out of their depth and as such employ others to basically do the work for them!

the people at our place are bloody useless at there jobs, got a designer that cant design anything that might work when done, we can tell it wont work before its made but they insist and when its made it doesnt work, he doesnt get a bollocking though

then theres the production manager and someother manager that is above hime, they are both university educated (judging by the way they are running the company into the ground must of been in how to fail at business) and they havnt got a clue about anything to do with engineering, they just like sending us on 5 S's course and other crap :lol::evil::twisted:

You should check out Dilbert comic and principle, very similar to the Peter principal ;)

It happens in all companies. My old company used to put developers into management positions and vice versa, wheres the damn logic? I dont know.
