Granada Timm Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Hi there, I have broken the rules already and this is my second post. Well, bloody Germans! Currently I am building "my perfect" Granada Mark I Coupe. It still has the original 2.0 V 6 but I already have a lot of the parts I really want on the car: RS front spoiler, steering wheel from "S"-model, 2.8 V6 done up a little bit with three Weber DCNF, RS headers, a locking differential (is that the correct word?), brake calipers for the vented discs, 26 mm anti-roll-bar, BBS rims in 6.5 x 14/7x15/7x16 and 8x16 and so on. Of course there are some things still missing but I am determined to do it completely and definetely. Because I already had a Coke-bottle 1973 Coupe in 1992 and had to sell it again; you guessed it already because of lack of money. Most of the times they try to give you some serious pain in the bum in Germany if you want to keep an old motor running. Currently I am doing teacher training and so my financial resources are again limited but not as bad as it was. As soon as I am finished and have a fulltime job I will get a second Granada Mk I. I would prefer another Coupe and this time a 3.0 Essex as I also love that engine. That reminds me of another thing: Does anyone have some original photos of that car from "Angry Motorsports"? I really would love some of those for my workshop and my house. I hope that I can find some people that will swap parts or send some over and I will send something over in return and so forth. I am a officially trained car mechanic with Ford (1992-1994; then 1.5 years of working in that job. I have some relatives in England and I might come over there eery now and again. I would love one of those, but they didn´t do the equivalent Taunus with that engine and I really need a LHD........ Don´t worry about the language; it´s just about the old cars and I think you qualify well enough with that. There are a lot of really hot andbeautiful older Fords in GB. I just bought some Retro Ford special with Escorts when we went over and it left me crying basically...........

I'm a little concerned about the German police though as I hear your TUV is a lot stricter on fitment non standard parts than our own MOT. Am I likely to end up getting into trouble with them despite the fact it's a british registered car?

Just bring them over; if they have a British numberplate and insurance then you are okay! Actually I was going to try to have a residence in the UK and insure the car there and have a British numberplate. And then I would have had some nice modifications (351 V 8 into Granada, all the wheels with no problems and other engines more modified, upgraded brakes and suspension, things chromeplated and so on). I am now not any more on the true knowledge side of what works and what doesn´t. But there is no way the police are going to stop your car and won´t let you drive on as long as it is something that obviously threatens other people or something really radical. About a lot of details I am not sure for example what about hot rods with no fenders? Or true racing cars? The main problem with having a car insured and MOTed in GB but living in Germany I think is that you have to be staying a minmum amount of time in GB. I am not sure how much that is. And I don´t know how they are going to check this and watch you????!!!!But if you are getting serious about the move just tell me so and I will look into a bit more detailed and find out how exactly it is these days. Maybe I might want to volunteer and take the burden of driving one of your cars over here by myself........I don´t know how you will mangae that, but if you are driving my best advice is to use Norfolk Lines and go from Calais to Dover and then to Dunkirk and drive here through Belgium. The French somehow haven´t forgotten about Agincourt and all this and they charge you quite some money for travelling on their motorways plus the fuel most of the times is even more expensive than over here............. I don´t know what else you have but if it is not a Fiesta Mk I with a 24Valve Cosworth V 6 Bi-turbo and 345 front wheels and 155 at the rear, then it should be okay........................

No, I´ll stick to my word and say you won´t have any problems driving that car over here with the right number plates. The wheels won´t stick out and if it will have an exhaust that does some silencing after all, it should be okay. Sorry but ist still has the steering wheel on the wrong side............... I have to admit that I am again flattened by what you do on that little island. That shell is going to be massive and all this welding looks extremely good. Nice job you are doing there. I wish I could spare the time and money to do something like that to my Granada. Compared to this I am really only playing with rusty crap and a few quid.......... See you over here! Timm
