jay_g Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Hello to all on here. I hope I have found the best place to be for chatting about MK1 escorts and to get as much help as possible with some qusetions that I have as I am a little confused! I hope I dont bore too many people on here with asking loads of questions but looking through the forums it does seem like there is plenty of knowledge around here. Before I go and post some questions I should tell you that my name is Jason, had a 1300 Mk1 Escort 20 years ago, I was 16 and done it up for when I could drive. I bought complete fibreglass wings with the moulded bubble arches, converted the rears to suit and got the bodywork to a faultless condition ready for top coat. Well I passed my test so chucked the car together as I was desperate to get on the road, that lasted for about a month before I then crashed it into 3 shop fronts!! ( shops were closed thank god ) 1 year to build and 1 month to ruin! Now all these years later, I have now got a 1300e Mk1 escort, 2 door. Its not that far off from being a roadworthy car but a long way off for being a nice example so I am at that stage of deciding what to do with it, what look do I go for and to what degree of effort to put into it. Lots of questions, decisions to make and lots of help and advice will be needed in the future. I look forward to learning more on here. Thanks

Smudger105e Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 . We have lots of members who are extremely knowledgeable (I am not one of them ) Surely that depends on the subject matter, doesn't it Dr Jo?
jay_g Posted October 14, 2009 Author Report Posted October 14, 2009 Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome. I will be asking some questions soon and hope to place them in the right area of the forum. My first question/discussion is based on needing to know what style and look I should go for and getting some feedback from others on here to what is most popular and what the definite DONTS are for a Mk1 escort, just general stuff like that but where do I post that? I am thinking in Chit Chat but is that for general chat or car related chat? Thanks
jay_g Posted October 14, 2009 Author Report Posted October 14, 2009 Welcome mate On the positive side, now you have a genuine excuse for your partner for not liking shopping I guess that would get me out of going window shopping too!
Trevmk3 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 if your asking about the mk1 escort then you can put it in the OSF chat part
azz-bo Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Welcome to the site mate I've just brought a 1300e aswell but I'm a complete newbie to the escort scene (their a fussy bunch of sods ). Spoilers are a no no well mine is apparently Your certainly in the right place though, if these people don't know it its not worth knowing
Savvi Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 Welcome to the site As for what you have already asked, i'd say it's your choice, some people like a standard looking car some like it stripped out and arched. I did a poll recently just to see what people thought of the various "common" mods. Personally being old enough to remember them new, and always liking them, i would keep a 1300E standard in body and trim but fit a different engine My Poll can be found here: http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... highlight=
jay_g Posted October 22, 2009 Author Report Posted October 22, 2009 Thanks for that, the poll is interesting but will have to do my own poll to answer a few decissions I have to make with regards to do's and dont's for styling etc.
y282 Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Thanks for that, the poll is interesting but will have to do my own poll to answer a few decissions I have to make with regards to do's and dont's for styling etc. she'll dent that bonnet leaning on it like that. personally i like the harris london look on mk1s, 3/4 or no front bumper, banded steels, etc, but tbh it's such a pretty shape you can do quite a variety of stuff to them. welcome!

Thanks, I am gradually learning that unlike some classic cars, you can do many things and not keep it original and still be accepted. Makes the most of restoring and modifying for an old boy like me !!
