My Capri 2.0S daily driver

So my car is taking a slightly different direction then planned. After finding out that my axle was leaking oil from the casing i have now had a replacement painted & fitted (pic to follow soon). The guys at Old Ford Autos had a contact with an Atlas at a good price so I got them to sort it. Whilst the car was there I asked them to wrap the exhaust & manifold, as this was a job I had in my mind but not planned. End result is looking good, and will help with some underbonnet temperatures. The engine bay needs some attention next!

Update!

 

Firstly, those of you at Bromley will have seen my car back on the road. Fantastic to have it back of course! So Old Ford Autos took my head & dechoked it, reground, & reset the valve seats. New valves were added but I did not get an unleaded conversion done. Sounds bonkers to some but I'm more than happy topping up with additive on fillups, I'm sure I will do this once the car becomes less of a daily driver & I go tuning crazy. What I have had done is have the cam pulley & rocker cover powdercoated. I cannot give enough praise to Neal & GBS Blasting for the quick turnaround time on this. Got them powdercoated to an almost identical grey to my car &, as Neal said "they look the nutz". Not all my engine bay is perfect so more bits to be powdercoated, but such a huge improvement.

In addition I also bought some stainless steel washers & bolts for the rocker cover, a new rad (since the water pressure expanded the old one out), a billet thermostat housing with new thermostat, & changed over to electronic ignition. It is produced by Pertronix, and from what's on here it's a rebadged Aldon Automotive electronic distribution, but since the guys at Old Ford have never used it before, I'm being the guinea pig! So far so good, no problems as yet, but only had it on the car just over a week. Old dizzy & coil have been replaced with billet dizzy & new coil. No points or condensers to worry about! They also had headlight rings plated & replaced my old headlights/rings with new ones I purchased a couple of years back.

 

It might not look like the best engine bay in the world but is a huge improvement!

Right massive update as I haven't been on here for ages. After my engine got rebuilt I ran it in for about 1000 miles & after an oil change it started smoking again, so was back to Old Ford autos to sort out. The Pertronix system was ditched, it would never spark & was useless so I went back to original dizzy but with electronic ignition to replace the points. The engine went back & was sorted out. After the running in I've done over 3500 miles & it's a really strong engine, idles well, temps keep halfway even in traffic, and apart from attending local meets I drove up to Lincolnshire last month for a Capri photoshoot, 320 mile round trip.

 

Unfortunately all good things must come down & unfortunately there are some MOT issues. I knew some minor issues: pulling to left when braking, horn & washer jets not working, exhaust needs minor adjustment & a slight fuel leak on the 32/36 carb seals. But the biggest issue is that the lower inner chassis sills have big rust holes in them, meaning my lower seat belt anchor hasn't been attached properly, see pics. So it's at old ford autos again having all the metal taken out & new plates welded in, then my seat belt anchor will be securely attached. More damn expense but that's the crap from running a daily classic!

Hey man yeah nice talking to you too & thanks on the thread. It's a daily, I try to keep it in the best nick possible, one day I'll strip it & have all the work done but until I get the money it's how it is. Don't forget about Brooklands either, hope you can make it.

Cheers guys, it is a awesome car, but it's had downfalls. After the Surrey Capri Club's enormous success at Brooklands for the Capri 45th Anniversary the weather had already taken hold. Water in the footwell is not what I wanted to see!

 

So I stripped it down ready to take to Jay. Removing the wing & having a good look around revealed everything on the drivers side. ot quite as much rot as some cars, but it's put me out of an old Ford for a few months. Rear spring mount points are nearly shot through.

I agree Dave, I will make sure it follows as close to perfection as to what I can afford. So much o me would love to full nut&bolt  resto it, but without adequate cover & protection I don't feel comfortable leaving it out anywhere, besides I love it as a daily driver, but good enough for shows. Will just have to wait, I'm back on the show circuit soon

Thanks. I haven't updated the pics on here for a while but the Capri has been back in use daily again and loving it. Also got some new Mk2 Allycat replicas from Midland which look so much better. Will update with some pics when I'm at home. Clear lenses do make a world of difference to the front end, although best to use the special orange bulbs which look clear for a better look.
