jonnystannard Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Right this just a post to sound out what you guys think might be worth while making out of carbon fibre? At the moment most of it is fiesta based, but open to surgestions on other ideas. As some of you may have seen I have got a carbon firbe rocker cover on my Xflow and due to the interest it's had we've decided to go head and make some more products as well as the xflow covers. Nothing will be available straight away tomorrow, we're only just getting set up and will have to make moulds etc There are years of carbon composite/race car experience going into these products so whilst I'm not actually advertising anything at the moment I just want to say they ain't going to be crap lol heres a pic of my cover for reference -So far we're working MK1 fiesta bonnets they are coming in at the moment at £350 and will weigh about 3kg (we're hoping to get them lighter although 3kg is pretty light!!) They will be a direct replacement no pins needed. They'll bolt up as original but with removeable hinges so you can still whip it off if you know what I mean?! -Xflow rocker covers -Bonnet catch mounting plates, (basically the black bit, this was a test peice to try different resins) but they look pretty good and are a little bit lighter -Zetec cam covers (starting work on these) with lead cover -MK2 fiesta bonnets same as the mk1 bonnets. -MK1/2 doors should get these pretty light and strong! -CVH cam covers are a way off but are considered -mk1 fiesta skinny bumpers & big ones -door handles are on the list (fiesta ones that is) Thats what we've got lined up so far, so what else do you guys reckon? We don't want to make stuff for the sake of it, if it can be made and actually make a weight saving (panel wise that is) then we'll do it. But somethings do just look great made out of carbon With a bit of luck hopefully I'll be able to do group buys on most of this stuff, as one big run on certian items will keep things down cost wise for us, so we might as well pass on the cost savings to you guys. Well we're not exactly going to have crazy prices anyway but if we can save a bit then so can you. I should say this isn't stuff for sale right now, but maybe available after Xmas. But if anyone has any other ideas then let me know. Thanks
Fiesta Steve Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 How much room is in the valve covers? I use very large springs and lots of lift on the cam and usually end up touching everywhere inside I'd be interested in doors and bumpers if the prices are sensible. Boot spoiler would be cool too as the rubber ones are tooooo heavy!!
jonnystannard Posted November 16, 2009 Author Report Posted November 16, 2009 There is a fair amount of room, we could sort something to suit you though. But I've not had any issues as yet, but when my engines together with a massive high lift cam then we'll see as it might need a tweek or two. Edit actually maybe not as I've just looked and there is a quite a lot of room in there. Spoilers will be on the list with and without cut out for the lock. Bumpers are also on the cards.
Von Thrash Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Skinny bumpers would be very interesting. If you're doing skinny front quarter bumpers with cut outs for the indicators, then im gonna start saving up.
turnover Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 cosworth yb dohc cam covers would be very popular
Nik3100 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 theres a real lack of any decent capri products in carbon I'm on the look out for carbon parts, a set of rocker covers would be amazing I was gonna suggest bumpers but they are on the large side and I think I'll end up wrapping them in carbon anyway how about centre consoles, tickford style maybe or even just the fascias? Mk3 Capri bits, it make sense
caprinerd Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 mk3 capri carbon rear spoiler would be good
Nik3100 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 man, what I'd give for a carbon version of my turbo tail
jonnystannard Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 man, what I'd give for a carbon version of my turbo tail It can be done, we'd just need one to mould from And then test it we'd work something out with who ever supplied it. The good thing about us doing it is we won't have massive overheads, so we can keep the prices sensible and affordable!!!
deltamal Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Would it be mega bucks to make a one off from a pattern part? thinking of a bonnet for theTina...

jonnystannard Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 Would it be mega bucks to make a one off from a pattern part? thinking of a bonnet for theTina... It shouldn't be, from our point of view ideally we'd like to do a run of 10/sell 10. Would keep it cheaper for everyone and we could recoup some of the costs of making the mould etc..

jonnystannard Posted November 21, 2009 Author Report Posted November 21, 2009 jonny where abouts are you based near Cambridge bloody hell im down the road in norfolk so close by as well Not too far away then
mangler Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 I'd love a bonnet for my MK3 2 door Tina, how about a pair of doors. I know someboby else who would like a bonnet as well.
caprinerd Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 he`d need a mint bonnet to model a mould off first jonny what sort of gold you reckon for a mk3 rear spoiler, as in the laser and s models
vibrating_Cake Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 ive got both a bonnet and a standard spoiler in the shed lol, bonnets near mint too =)
jonnystannard Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 he`d need a mint bonnet to model a mould off firstjonny what sort of gold you reckon for a mk3 rear spoiler, as in the laser and s models Your right we would need stuff to mould from. I'll let you know as soon as we're ready to work on new stuff. I'm not sure how much it would cost without seeing one. I think they're like the mk1 fiesta spoilers? and they're proving to be difficult to mould from as it's so bl**dy flexible and doesn't have a good shiney surface due to being made out of rubber rather than plastic. So it might not be too expensive to make once its there, but it will be the hours spent on the mould!!!!! It has been a while since I've seen a laser rear spoiler so correct me if I'm not thinking along the right lines.
caprinerd Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 the rear spoiler is like the fiesta one but a bit bigger, when your ready just give us a shout
