samurai Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Clutch cable broke today Anyone got any pictures of their engine bay with a pinto with a big manifold,i need to see how people route there cables. It seems that mine broke as i tied it to the speedo cable which gave it an angle! The heat/manifold also didnt help Thanks
Mr Sam Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 i bought a RS2000 'LONG' cable for when i was going to convert the anglia i had to cable think the 'LONG' is easier of summin when you have an aftermarket manifold
Admin Vista Posted November 30, 2009 Admin Report Posted November 30, 2009 Faced the same problem a couple of years ago and got a heat shielded one from somewhere shown in this thread from page 3 on http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... &postorder
samurai Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 I got 1 from 1 place which tured out to be crap then i got a long 1 from speedshack which broke today! So i ordered a heat shielded one from rally and competition equipment along with a heat shielded mat 50x50cm to wrap the clutch/speedo cables for extra protection. I noticed also the cable end where it connects to the clutch pedal is rubing on the bias pedalbox threaded bar! Ill get a picture now for you to see...
MK2Ed Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Yep, avoid tight angles like the plague... Get a long one & sweep it
samurai Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 Where the clutch cable exits it lines up stright with the manifold pipe! i had it up and around at an angle. This time ill go alittle down and around at an angle and any slights bends this time wont be at the bulkhead nozzle end. I will get pictures when the cable comes.
samurai Posted December 3, 2009 Author Report Posted December 3, 2009 The postman knocks on my door waking me up again before my alarm goes off! Heavy duty end bit compared to the other cable..made of metal..
BIG G Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 Before you install it poor oil into the cable as this will stop it snagging the inner nylon liner and breaking so soon
samurai Posted December 3, 2009 Author Report Posted December 3, 2009 Before you install it poor oil into the cable as this will stop it snagging the inner nylon liner and breaking so soon Yeah i was thinking of puting oil down it but i think the cable will still thouch the metal connector when the pedal is pressed.I will fit it and then check tomorrow.
samurai Posted December 10, 2009 Author Report Posted December 10, 2009 First tryed fitting the heat shielded clutch cable and noticed that it wont fit in the hole like shown in the picture so it had to be filed down to fit. The cable is standard length with a metal end,its much nicer having the standard length cable as the other one was wayyy too long and was pointless. There is still alittle bit of a bend at the bulkhead end...will see how it goes. Also added more heat wrap around the manifold to go further down.
LEONMEX Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 my old cable i got from r.a.c.e was bit longer & had the metal sleeve same as yours at the bulkhead. ran mine this close to the manifold & it was fine
samurai Posted December 10, 2009 Author Report Posted December 10, 2009 The angle of your cable coming out of the nozzle was like how mine was...and thats the one that snaped! Maybe the heat shield will make all the difference Nice rocker cover by the way How much did that cost? Id like one with a flag
sambo Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 I had this trouble on my old mk1. I re-mounted the bulkhead tube that the cable comes out of at a different angle and it was cured!
