Mr Sam Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 about a year ago now i bout a webber carb to replace the ford VV item and today i finally fitted it, unfortunatly i have no choke need a longer cable and the idel is a tad irratic its also lean top end as it really doesnt like doin 60 in 3rd some lads in a C2 were rather suprised when i fired up in the petrol station having no choke i had to use some extra revs you can see the revs jumping between 1200 and 1400 so ill have to have a play around in the daylight tomorrow sounds great though a fair goes some
Baz. Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 that red line wants turning round to 7500 rpm
Fiesta Steve Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 Nice one m8, get that lecy ignition fitted now
Mr Sam Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 7.5 my ears are in pain at 4k took a mate out in it once he said redline it..............dont think he's been in a car without a rev limiter before
Mr Sam Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 just been out for a spin really really need to get the choker operational it kept wanting to die had a few hair raising moments then i realised its ideling at 2k.......thats why dropping a cog wasnt reducing much speed popped the bonnet in a car park wound down the idle sped screw......a little too far gave a gathering of chavs a shock when i opened it up on a mini rounderbout in need of electronic ignition now its spitting and popping and the points are rattling away, less than a month since i changed them got a huge grin on my face now and to think ive got a 1600 sitting in the garage waiting togo in
Mr Sam Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 no i need one though got very sideways (from the front end) damn dorque steer as i hit second giving it some
Mr Sam Posted January 2, 2007 Author Report Posted January 2, 2007 done some minor bodghing and now have a choke basically the wire bit is now fixed where the cable should of been mounted and the plastic housing slides backwards and forwards to operate the choke and it works
Mr Sam Posted January 2, 2007 Author Report Posted January 2, 2007 minor hickup the choke thingy came out in my hand all sorted went for a spin desperatly needing electronic ignition otherwise she bloody shifts went past 4k
Mr Sam Posted January 2, 2007 Author Report Posted January 2, 2007 heres the ghetto ness of it all im going to revert back to the drilled airbox sounds and goes better for some reason
escort21 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 If its running lumpy you may need to adjust the mixture screw...easy on a twin choke
Fiesta Steve Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 minor hickup the choke thingy came out in my hand all sorted went for a spin desperatly needing electronic ignition otherwise she bloody shifts went past 4k It should rev to 6.5k easily m8. Get the electronic ign on there !!
Mr Sam Posted January 2, 2007 Author Report Posted January 2, 2007 6.5 i dont actually know where the mixture screw is on it not had a propper look hopefully going for an RR session next month so ill see if the tester will set it up for me ready for the MOT so it geths through emessions really wanting leccy ignition though
Fiesta Steve Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 6.5 i dont actually know where the mixture screw is on it not had a propper look hopefully going for an RR session next month so ill see if the tester will set it up for me ready for the MOT so it geths through emessions really wanting leccy ignition though Pinch it from a scrapper Mk2 m8
Mr Sam Posted January 2, 2007 Author Report Posted January 2, 2007 id found one a mate across the road scraps cars he proudly showed me a mint mk2 he bought for £5 and was crushing i noticed the engine lieng on its side asked if i could nick the dizzy for a few cans of beer he said dont bother at least points are easy to change when they go wrong, he's a right funny git about things (wanted £100 for pepperpots) so i just walked off
Mr Sam Posted January 2, 2007 Author Report Posted January 2, 2007 went out for a drive see if the choke works no it doesnt took ages to start from cold seemed okay after a while the i get ready to fly out at a rounderbout floor it and pop the clutch just no power at all and theres a car right up my arse now anyway i struggle home at 40mph dreading this hill hit the hill end up in 1st gear at 10mph puttering away get to the top and it conks out, cranking just no fire. at this point im getting ready to walk the 1/2 mile home turn the ignition fully off then try one more fired straight away and ran superbly 50 in foookin second so i blame the points that i only changed last month
quickrack Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 The whole ignition set up off a MK11 fester should fit in about half an hour. Classic Ford did a how to a while back on it.
bortaf Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Have you checked for an air leak before you start messing with the mixture screw? is the carb new or S/H , if S/H the float bowl could be full of crud?
