Am I the only one who thinks that the prices for retro fords are getting silly? On the performance ford forum, someone had just bought a 1.1L mk1 escort shell for £1200, no engine, no gearbox, is his normal? If this is, what is the cheapest ones to go for? Getting worried about this. :(

Not really.

I mean, look at houses.

It's all about supply and demand, and much like with houses when demand falls, so do their prices.

Having said that, only people who HAVE to sell at the 'wrong' time do.

You may have found that the chap selling the 2 door *had* to sell. Otherwise I'm sure it would have been much more expensive. Maybe...

I do think however that 4 door escorts have closed the 'gap' a bit too much in my books however. I can remember (and I'm only 24) when you could get mint ones for well under a grand. But again, supply and demand, they are getting rare. I'd never pay £3k for a four door escort, others would though, so their price goes h'up!

I think value of MK3 capri's has rocketed, when I bout my 2L Laser in 2006 in nice useable nick ( some dents, rust ) it cost me £630 with around 3 months T&T on it.

Last month a guy near me flogged one for roughly same amount and NO panel on it was any good and the chassis was rotten

I've seen some in the same condition as mine going for close to £1900, it's been said that " live on mars " made alot of OSF's popular again.

It certainly put up the price of MKIII Cortinas and the prices have stayed up even though Life On Mars ended in 2007.

The fact is all classic Fords are getting harder to get now so they will go up and keep going up.
