escysean Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Are profoundly Deaf people allowed to drive  Yes they are allow to drive, how do I know? Well, both my wife and myself are profoundly deaf and nowt wrong with that eh?  I have been driving for over 26 years, we may not hear but we use our eyes more often and very alert to compensate the lack of hearing.  Sean
Grizzley Dell Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 im allowed to drive and i have my metal so fookin loud i cant hear anything else. no difference.
DEP Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Deaf ones are ok.....................Its the blind ones you have to look out for
Admin Mk2Jo Posted February 10, 2010 Admin Report Posted February 10, 2010 Yes   Well they fookin shouldnt one ran into my truck today He didnt hear me  How did he run into your truck then? What do you mean he didn't hear you?
914Driver Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I work with a guy that is profoundly deaf, he drives. What I don't understand is why he has a "handicapped" decal. I would think a handicapped decal which allows you priority parking is due to a mobility issue, not hearing. Â Â But hey, look at all the money you save on stereo! Â Â Â Dan

mk1super Posted February 10, 2010 Author Report Posted February 10, 2010 How did he run into your truck then? What do you mean he didn't hear you? Â Right heres how it happened Jo. I was sent to take a tree down in a local Primary school, id been warned to be very careful as the infants section was right next to the carpark and the fence in place was useless as the kids could climb through it quite easy it was far to easy for the little uns to gain access to the carpark,by the time we finished it break time, so i was being so so careful. Â Because i was aware of little uns playing so close by i had on my 4 ways, the orange light going on the roof, switched on the reverse warning alarm to give as much warning of my intentions as poss i proceeded very slowly and carefully to reverse out of the space and suddenly this car just reversed out of the space opsit right into the back of me truck He hit the Transit so hard it jumped forward and hit a bollard He then jumps out of the car and proceeds shrug and mumble at me (I thought he had been drinking and went ape sh!t at him!) How didnt you see me???!!!!" He then says "no point shouting about it am deaf" (I thought he was taking the p155 at this point) I thought oh a cheeky fooker eh by then a teacher and two assistantswho had heard the comming together came out and defused the situation. They signed back and forth for a bit then she told me, he didnt see me and deffo didnt hear reverse warning alarm. Â I didnt mean to sound like i hated the deaf, it just annoyed me, that i had tried to be so careful for this to happen, and that he didnt take proper care, as he was in an enviroment where he could have run a child down. Â And yes to my ignornace i didnt know that deaf people were allowed to drive, hence why i came on here to ask as i figured someone on here will know, and tell me so that i know and in future can tell others. Â End of the day he has taken full responsibilty the truck will be repaired. And i learned a lesson even being super careful accedents happen. Â And Sean i didnt mean any offence mate
mk1super Posted February 10, 2010 Author Report Posted February 10, 2010 Oh and the guy i work with thinks its great that the transit is broken again but this time its not my fault
FredTransit Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I don't understand how he could not have seen you. A car would have a rear view mirror, and door mirrors, that's one more mirror than a van would have (interior rear view) so why would he not see you? I would say he didn't look, it's immaterial he didn't hear you, mirrors are for when you are reversing! Still, looks like he's taking the blame, which he should.
m1c Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I didnt mean to sound like i hated the deaf  pmsl  Â
caprinerd Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 im deaf in one ear and wear a hearing aid but cant have it on whilst driving as it knocks me off ballance by law a deaf person is allowed to drive and just because a deaf person run into you dont mean they shoudnt be on the road how many hearing people have crashed into someone else and not been told they shoulnt drive my wife has AS a spinal disease and is registered disabled and is still allowed to drive even though it ristricts her body movement.
