xpackken Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Hi guys , I have been of the scene for the last year after selling my v8 capper ! i have just got myself another 2.0 laser , But by fooking good does it feel sooooo sloooooow !!! Im not sure if they are that basd or if i have been spoilt using a 56 audi everday and a nissan gti-r (309 bhp) as my toy, Dont get me wrong i love the capper but i cant live with a 2.0 for long , so i would like some imput of you guys and opinions on engine transplants !! pro,s & cons ! ( and please correct me if am wrong) COSWORTH YB Imo , amazing engine and very tunable , gives that boost feeling , and not to much trouble getting one in the capper , Cons v expensive to buy and upkeep !! V8 (any) Imo , sounds fooking awesome and the tourqe is amazing , and will go in without to much bother ! BIG CON Cost of running the bleeding thing as a dailey runner duretec , zetec, xe etc , Imo all great engine and relativly easy to go in , but is standard power enough to set the world alight ? then if you need to spend the money on doing the engine , why not just yb it Please dont shoot me guys , but the 2.2 tdci ford duratourqe engine (diesel) 160 bhp and can be chipped upto 200 bhp v easy ! Ive been in a tdi st mondeo and there a big car and they feel quick ! imagine half the weight and another 40 bhp , PLUS 40 MPG CON Its a deisel, bad sounding , and i wonder if they will even go in there what gearbox and would it be a ball ache job !!
Copey Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 V8 on LPG i was thinkin zetec a while back, but i am stickin with the pinto as its race tuned so i would need to spend a lot to make it faster but a zetec with twin carbs and st170 cams will make 170bhp, which makes a capper pretty quick! then you can do a load of headwork on it to get it up past 200
xpackken Posted March 10, 2010 Author Report Posted March 10, 2010 Yeah pintos are a legend in there own right mate, but i like the sound of putting more power into a zetec or durtect but surely is it more cost effective to put the legendary yb in and see abit more power anyways this is the thing copey , To many if and buts
Copey Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Yeah pintos are a legend in there own right mate, but i like the sound of putting more power into a zetec or durtect but surely is it more cost effective to put the legendary yb in and see abit more power anyways this is the thing copey , To many if and buts there was a big debate about zetecs vs cossies (my doing ) there is a zetec capper that runs 9's, obviously thats a big bucks build but to get a zetec upto standard cossie stats and fitted into a capper would cost about the same as a cossie, to which most people would think "may as well just go cossie" for ease more than anything as they will bolt straight in but my argument for zetec over cossie is once the zetecs fitted if you blow up the engine it doesnt cost you an arm and a leg to fix, buy a new engine and transfer over tuning bits
SAMMYBOY Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 I`d go for either a V8...any....just can`t beat the sound......Or the 24v Cossie BOB engine....
bortaf Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 IMHO there's no way a zetec is gonna give the same power as a mildly tuned turbo cossie unless you drop the CR and turbo it as well and if you do that cheap replacement go's straight out the window cos you can't just plonk a replacement in without rebuilding it to LC spec on tother hand with cossies fetching 5G pluss for a known decent engine that's a whole lotta money to spend on your £500 new zetec and fitting a nat asperated one wont cost anywhere near £4,500 Personly i'd rather drive a standard cossie over a NA zetec tuned to the same power, it'll be easyer to driver every day and a grand will see a big chunk of power added in about half a day with a few spanners and a screw driver. Actually that didn't really decide anything, your right too many if, buts and whats
Copey Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Actually that didn't really decide anything, your right too many if, buts and whats aye at the end of the day it all boils down to what you want from an engine personally for a daily i would go tuned zetec, just for reliability more than anythin but for a balls out track car/play thing it would have to be a cossie
turnover Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 diesel be different and cheeeeeeeep to run and loads of torque
DEP Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Honda V-Tec, as feated in a mk2 escort in this months Classic Ford Might look a bit lost in a Capri engine bay thou
Grizzley Dell Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 go the whole hog and stick a bmw m5 diesel lump in it, they is fast.
Matt.C Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 how about nissan 200sx sr20 engine. youve already got experiance with the engine in your pulsar and its fairly cheap to buy and already comes with a rwd gearbox. Im planning to fit one in my mk2 escort estate. Or you could fit a supra or skyline 6 pot in the capper.
mossy Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 this is what im doing atm. Whole running gear cost me £300. Pain is deciding to splice the loom or run the complete 200loom. Tuning wise they are awesome my s14 made 245bhp with a filter, exhaust, fmic! Upgrade turbo, injectors then you can be running 450+.
over_head_cam Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 V8 out of a 928s, then add a couple of turbos Or go with the diesel - dare to be different
CossiePower Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 5 pot focus st lump also found in the volvos as the t5
5hane Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 toyota 1jz (or 2jz if you have the money !) would be awsome !
V8ian Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 V8 every time, Economy, mine gives 33mpg on a run and 20 around town, MUCH LESS if im nailing it!!
