If you like that sort of thing then avebury ring not too far away there is a nice little village built inside the ring (damn those christians) although not as iconic is far more impressive and you can hug the stones man but for the wife then Bath is only about 45 mins away and is a beautiful place to go visit an easy afternoon lots of sites and pubs .

Enjoy mate its a lovely part of this glorious country of ours (cue land of hope and glory)

And if you're in Bath (a lovely place) you might as well go to Bristol too......

Start with the suspension bridge, then head to the Bristol museum. Learn about the docks history and then down to the docks to see the remnants of the history in the flesh, including SS Great Britain and the Matthew.

Yeah you can't really get too near the stones anymore. There are a few chalk horses in Wiltshire as well

Depends how far you're prepared to go for a day out, Portsmouth is only around 90 mins from stonehenge (if that) and has lots of naval related things to see, Southsea Pier amusement park and beach are worth a look too.

Theres also the Fleet air arm museum at Yeovilton & the Haynes car museum at Sparkford.. all near Yeovil on the A303 which is the road stonehenge overlooks. If you're going to Bath then swing back past Glasto
