zetecmk2 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 are you gonna sit around smoking dope isnt that what you do at stone henge not since the fence went up!!
Lardy Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 If you like that sort of thing then avebury ring not too far away there is a nice little village built inside the ring (damn those christians) although not as iconic is far more impressive and you can hug the stones man but for the wife then Bath is only about 45 mins away and is a beautiful place to go visit an easy afternoon lots of sites and pubs . Enjoy mate its a lovely part of this glorious country of ours (cue land of hope and glory)
jimbo Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 And if you're in Bath (a lovely place) you might as well go to Bristol too...... Start with the suspension bridge, then head to the Bristol museum. Learn about the docks history and then down to the docks to see the remnants of the history in the flesh, including SS Great Britain and the Matthew.
Stu_B Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Yeah you can't really get too near the stones anymore. There are a few chalk horses in Wiltshire as well If you're into that kinda thing you may as well take a trip to Glastonbury tor
one-day Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 could go and play on the tank training grounds near by could be interesting
Admin Vista Posted March 13, 2010 Admin Report Posted March 13, 2010 Depends how far you're prepared to go for a day out, Portsmouth is only around 90 mins from stonehenge (if that) and has lots of naval related things to see, Southsea Pier amusement park and beach are worth a look too.
Mr Sam Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 what a picture!!!!! yes you MUST visit Glastonbury town and the Tor, and avebury i really wanna get back there! me as a baby 8/8/88 at the stones with a load of hippy types
stevepeanut Posted March 13, 2010 Author Report Posted March 13, 2010 deffo going to stonehenge, visiting bath, avebury ring looks worth a visit, our lass loves stone circles so she'll deffo want to see that. Also noticed we are near thruxton, so might go watch britsh superbikes on the sunday. Might see if theres any nice railway journeys in the area, cant beat a nice ride on a steam train. Need to see how far glastonbury tor is from where we are staying
trakevlyn Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 There is the Army air corp museum at Middle Wallop
Stu_B Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Theres also the Fleet air arm museum at Yeovilton & the Haynes car museum at Sparkford.. all near Yeovil on the A303 which is the road stonehenge overlooks. If you're going to Bath then swing back past Glasto
bortaf Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Avebury is way better IMHO, west kennet long barrow is well worth a visit, there's silbury hill and the Uffington White Horse, woodhenge aint that far from stonehenge as while your there Go later in the year and you might find a crop circle or 2 to have a wander about
BIG G Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 weyhill hawk conserancy is great between the henge and andover
stevepeanut Posted March 13, 2010 Author Report Posted March 13, 2010 cheers for all the replys, I really fancy fleet air museam, I love aviation and they have the 1st ever concorde, got to see that. Missus loves bird and particularly red kites so she will want to go to the hawk conservation place.
