stuartp Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 woke up at just gone 12 last night to the sound of engines in my close. opened the curtains and had a look down to see 4 people on scooters right by my escort. as soon as they saw me looking at them they all rode off. this would have worried me a bit anyway but the fact that the bloke round the corner (with an old rover) had popped round the other day to tell me that someone on a scooter had been lurking in his close and had nicked the cover off of a bike parked there. needless to say i was up and at the window every time there was any sound outside my house - got very little sleep last night - if it wasn't little noises it was my brain thinking of ways to make my car safer (that don't cost much/ any money as i'm skint)
lotusless Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 maybe they were looking for other bikes, still not good though mate if your not using the escort all the time take the wheels off, might sound drastic but it will slow the fookers down! also sink a hook into the floor + chain it down too
stuartp Posted April 8, 2010 Author Report Posted April 8, 2010 thing is i use it maybe once or twice a week (and will be lots more soon i hope - weather permitting) so anything that makes it a pain to use is going to be..... erm, a pain. i do have a thing i bought to lock my bike up in the shed which is drilled down into the concrete - i had a second one that i was going to fit at work but never got round to it - reckon i'll chain the car up to that (although i can see myself forgetting and driving off with it attached - i'll have to put a note on my steering wheel!) i was thinking of putting in a couple of those posts that you can unlock and drop down but that'll cost a bit
peranapete Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Its sound like there sniffing your motor out ! Cant you take the battery off or get a cut of terminal next to battery then unscrew it and take it indoors when you go in, you got to make it difficult for them. Good luck
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 woke up just gone 12 i went to bed about 1
Slammed Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 jack it uptake the wheels of and put it on stands, put a machine mat 20 quid car cover over it, and take the battery out, a bit anal i know but could save your osf from scum
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 i was awake the night my escort got nicked and i actually heard what i now know a screwdriver/spanner dropped but didnt look untill i heard the car start Apple Pies
mk1rob Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Have you got an alarm? If not and dont wanna fork out for one, just put a little flashing LED on the dash somewhere with a switch hidden away. Gives the impression its alarmed. Plus its cheap and easy! I dont like car covers as ive found they leave fine scratchs if you cars got any dirt/grit on it.
oliwally Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 wire a door light switch to the horn, that'll wake every one up in your close
Posse Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 I would run out there shit down there throats and set my 2 dogs on them dirty fooking scum
lee_capri Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 fit a dead switch as well mate on the coil side of thing's so it turn's over but will not start
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 I would run out there shit down there throats and set my 2 dogs on them dirty fooking scum this might sound violant on here but i would have killed the turds if i caught them
In The Pit Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 An easy trick I always use is to block your car in with other cars. That is of course if you have other cars to use if its your only car and you park it on the street park between two cars so they cant easily winch it onto a trailer.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 violance will only stop these scum but then you got to be prepared to do time as youll turn out the bad guy in the polices eyes
stuartp Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 woke up just gone 12 i went to bed about 1 the mrs wanted an early night
stuartp Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 it's under a car cover i'm actually hoping it's the cover they were eyeing up - supposedly a couple of covers have been nicked round our way recently - my neighbour reckons it might be an easy steal for youngsters to flog on at a bootsale one of the leads is removed from the dizzy (temporary fix until i attach the cut off switch i got recently), steering wheel lock on and from tonight it will be chained to the ground i do have two cars but no simple way to block the escort in as it's two spaces next to each other (my neighbours don't have a car and are very kindly letting me use their parking space)
chunkys mk1 Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 wire it to the mains that will stop the f**kin scum how about a wheel clamp in full view
BIGKEV Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Pot of coffee and a baseball bat - just wait for the little Apple Pies to come again then steal their scooters
mr shag Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 take the rotor arm out or grind the the end off an old rotor arm to put in when ur not using the car not so obvious as the coil lead a lot of people look for a kill switch when it wont fire
Yeomans22 Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 i had soem people eyeing up my capri bout 3 weeks ago, i know they were at its was rain hard outside and the guy was on a push bike at the end of a cud de sac. my capri, has an old steel wheel fitted, with a flat tyre that can't be pumped up. i also chained an old steel wheel rim to the back axel, will make pleanty of noise if moved. Paul.
8ball Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 im glad i dont have to worry about this kinda thing happening around here. + every gard around here knows my car for good and not so good reasons but if i ever go out to my m8s in collage in limerick or cork i usualy take of the lead to the dizzy and mess with the plug leads like move em all over one or something
bronze4door Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 wire a door light switch to the horn, that'll wake every one up in your close i'm was thinking that but wiring it to my air horns
Mk 1 Helen Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 I put a wheel clamp on my car in the garage but they can still be moved with them on- my husband reversed it out the garage & on to the drive before he remembered to take the clamp off, result; dented & scatched wing & 1 furious wife. Now I block the escort in with his bike, might forget to move that next time I go out he doesn't drive the escort now, would be hard with two broken legs
