this old subject AGAIN. comparing apples and oranges  very diffferent beasts and its more about personal preferance. i love an injector capri, but have never owned one as they tend to be double the price of equivilent condition 4pots, and im sorry, having driven them they just aint double the fun, despite the recaros and billies i ant see why they are so much more  . worth noting tho, the cologne is still tunable, cams, exhausts and k&ns are available for it ;) for me tho, it has to be the pinto for what you want. cheaper to buy and run (if you stick with a single carb), especially if you buy one that has already had alot of the work done, like cam, exhaust and suspension mods etc  and as for noise, pintos dont sound too shabby with a decent zorst system :ykt: certain mods like inj heads are pretty cheap but give you unleaded valve seats and essentialy a stage 1 head to bolt straight on

A slightly unscientific response here but I have always owned pinto engined capris, I used to road rally one yonks ago, found it nimbler through the bends and easier to drive than my dads 3.0, which you could provoke into understeer  so it depends what you want from the car really, a lightly warmed V6 is theoretically going to be more reliable than a balls out pinto and the ultimate bhp might not be that far apart. Torque is also a factor of course. For handling I would always go for a four pot capri, apples and oranges it is then!

when it comes to engine choice there will always be this argument as everyone has their preference me it goes towards pinto`s other would go essex, cologne, screaming kent, zetec, cossy, then there`s injection or carbs, then there`s the throttle boddies, 40`s 45`s 48`s the list will go on, in the end its got to be down to you

It's going to have to be a pinto lump. From what u gus are saying. I don't think the 2.8 is going to be as good as the pinto for what I want to do. Plus after speaking to some mates. I'm sure it will be a lot cheaper. Plus I have been offered a tuned pinto head from a good friend. So that has kinda sealed it. The 2.8 has got all the toys and stuff. But I dint want a car to drive around in. I want summin to play around with and go drag racing in. So the pinto without Its power steering will be great. And as for the interior. That's coming out. And I got a pair of Cobra Monaco S's sat at home. Just waitin for the car.

Still hoping to make the 6th June osf show.

Definately mk1webby. I'll give u a go down the strip too. Providing I got the cappa by then. And as long as your not still running the engine in?

just to add something else to consider:

this question depends on what you're going to do long-term. if you ever decide to go the 24v route then a 2.8i will save you a lot of trouble, as wil it if you go YB.

If you're looking to go fully tuned pinto flavour or zetec, then the normal 4 pot stuff is ideal.

whichever you choose, good luck with it :)

If you want to go round corners fast = pinto

if you want to lie about how much power your engine has = cologne

(160 my arse) they usually struggle to 150 even when new sorry but it's true

if you wan't a decent base for CHEAP tuning = pinto

if you want to expensivly tune it = cologne

if you want a nice motorway muncher with all the toys = cologne (preferably a special)

TBH it's horses for courses, for a nice fast cruiser i'd go 2.8, then throw it away and fit a 2.9 or 24V, if you like trackdays? pinto cos they are cheap to replace/repair when they do evetually blow up
