Capri Club Int Membership Renewal

Just had my form through for re-newing my membership and I'm not sure I'm gonna bother

I've been a member for years but to be honest I spend most of my free time on here and on Turbosport and if I want to know anything technical I ask on-line and virtually get an instant response. The parts they sell seem to be expensive (to me anyway) for what they are and if I need anything there is always Gaybay or here.

It's not the money either its £24.95 for 12 months and I get a monthly mag but the mag is nowhere as good as the posts in Resto's & Projects or Readers Rides.

I spose the club itself (for me)has now become outdated due to the interweb and can no longer keep up as we all expect things instantly, especially information, maybe thats what they should have done, started there own forum, but they missed the boat on that coz there is already 2 or 3 dedicated Capri forums out there now.

What does everyone else think, have I missed something obvious and should re-new my membership

You nailed it there I think.

The mag is no more than a pamphlet now. I wonder if John is stretching himself too far cos the mag's content is always very thin, there's never any technical stuff in there since Ian Coulson left (whatever happened to him?) and I used to enjoy reading about people's issues.

And the web page is dissapointing. I would order parts from them if you could select it from an online parts list, but I can't be arsed fannying about ringing people or using Royal Snail. Just about every other Club that caters for specific makes, has a cracking mag and a great dedicated site - not CCI.

That said, I take my hat off to him for sourcing parts that's you just can't get anymore.

Used to be a member quite some time ago, cci is not the club it used to be.

 

There was a story that gartrac designed the rear disc brake kit for cci, not long after cci started selling gartracs kit they started selling there own based on gartrac's design.

Same here, I used to be a member about 7 years ago when I had my first Capri. I was thinking the other day whether to re-join, but not sure I will now.

 

I agree about the web site! I logged on to that a few times, but couldn't help thinking "that surley isn't the site for the CCI". From how I remember the CCI, they put alot of time and money into sourcing and re-making parts, had a good monthly magazine and just came across totally professional. That is why I couldn't believe that was their website!

I do luv Capri's but I also luv Mk 2 Escy's and Anglia Van's and you get those on here and not in the CCI. Think I'd rather give my money to Posse and his little helpers than pay for my suscription again.

Think I just feel a bit sad and guilty that CCI was at the forefront for so long and now they seem so far behind. I don't remember there being an Escort or Anglia club back in the 90's(might be wrong though)just bloody MG owners everywhere with there pipes and leather gloves

There's been Escort clubs around for years mate, to name just two, the AVO club (though not specifically an Escort club, but dominated by them) formed in 1980 and the Sporting Escort Owners club in 1985. Neither have ever been as large as CCI but both are still going strong and are popular with their members (though sadly not universally when talkiing about the AVO club)

 

I was a CCI member for years having owned 2 mk3 2.8is and 2 mk1 3 litres between about 92 and 2003. I gave on them in the late 90's feeling that they had lost their way. It seemed that each month there were more stick on bits for sale but less in the way of good parts. I used to go to quite a few of their shows but they never seemed as relaxed an atmosphere as the ones I've attended with the Escort.

 

I think if I was to buy another capri I'd look for a club that was a little more owner and car orientated and a little less let's make lots of money orientated.

I'm still a member at the moment, not too sure if i'll renew it this year. I agree the club has kind of lost its way, they seem to concentrate on breaking cars and re producing alloys, whereas i'd have thought the way forward would be re manufacturing body panels. Everyone needs those, once all the cars have rotted away due do lack of panels, whose gonna buy repro alloys?

Gave up on them years ago. I think you've all got it 100% right as far as the CCI goes.

some if it gets me so mad, good cars getting broken up, stupid prices asked for the parts that come off it then the shell sold on as a project i dont know where the enthusiasm is, its all profit based it seems.

yeh but thats how the cci has been run (money and not owner orientated) for the last 8-9 years. Capri owners get a crap deal out of their national club. Local clubs and web forums I reckon are better run, friendlier, cheaper and far more disposed to help
