SmokeEm Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 to run on methanol? Any details? How much more power from a tuned Pinto?
banarama Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 not sure , but i think your be doing more than smokin em.
w p e Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 its simple enough mines set up for it but its to expensive. you can mix meth with super but if you get the mix wrong you can cause water droplets whitch can cause damage
w p e Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Isn't it just the jetting/timing ? yep you can run much more advance if the fuelings right or make a big mess if its wrong. it smells nice aswell
X FLOW EDDY Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Dont be tempted to drink it When my dad did a bit of drag racing in the 70's with a 3.8 jag powerd slingshot they used to drain the engine oil off into a pan and leave it over night to settle out and then burn the methanol off the top before the naxt days racing !!
pccapri Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 I like your thinking Dave, I need to drop in to the 13's before end of season!

Toby Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 My humble opinion is it should be a last resort not a first. Methanol is toxic (effects from exposure to it are cumulative) and hygroscopic meaning it is a "water finder". You won't want to leave it in the tank or it will take on water and I believe combines to make some type of acid which will attack rubber seals / fuel lines / tanks. Also it will work best with more compression than pump fuel will tolerate so your engine is then confined to pricey fuel. Try some E85 on a rolling road. It's cheap, readily available and should make a little extra power. You'll need slightly bigger jets, but you can keep your old ones to go back to conventional fuel if / when you want. Reading between the lines you've just run 14.3 - that's pretty good going mate, and with a pretty heavy car. One other point - the consensus of opinion is the track was slow this weekend so you might find the 0.3 another day!

Toby Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 Thanks Toby You're welcome but this answer is better!! Lose some weight, fatty Thinking about E85, it still might not be the best fuel to leave in your tank for the same reasons as the methanol - i believe it will take on water too, but it's a fook site cheeper so you can just light your BBQ with it ! I think it's intended for use in modern car with management systems that self advance until they detect knocking and modern technology fuel lines.
hollowaykid Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 save the money youd spend on your food shopping and spend it on your car simples
