.....do Wales instead. It is bloody AMAZING  ! Once again I went out with the Mk2 to tackle the Mountain ranges of Wales, I brought with me my bro and some friends who were driving some more modern hardware (260bhp Scooby, Seat GTi, uprated 160bhp Focus 2 litre). We had an epic 3 day weekend and covered nearly 900miles. I will let the pics do most of the talking, get a cuppa and enjoy.......

This is the rough route we did, some of the best places/roads aren't on some maps:

We always had a competition to see who used the most/least fuel, I almost always won!

We travelodged it for most of the trip at £25 per person per night. On the first morning we went over the cars carefully because we knew how demanding the Black Mountains and A4069 would be.....

The Black Mountains didn't disappoint, absolutely mental, but if you come off you are staying off. Only way for the Mk2 to keep up with the mighty Scooby was to brake later and harder.....

Obviously, I am not cutting the hairpin. There was a sheep on the lying on the left side of the corner that I had to overtake....

The Focus and Scooby were suffering brake fade. These are mine before.....

And after 45mins of keeping up with the Scooby.....

flipping hot but no brake fade luckily. The on to the massive Lynne Brianne Reservoir again, taking the superb single track back roads. Many of these aren't on GPS so there is not a car for miles....

Stooping off for lunch at the massive Lynne Brianne dam....

And Blast on through Snowdonia to Bangor travelodge late in the evening.

Next day, and straight back in the seat to Anglesey race circuit to have a look at what is going on there. It would be rude not to go through Snowdonia again:

The End. Total Cost including all food, fuel, fun and accomadation was £300. An unforgettable weekend and easily better than 3 days on the track imo. Have a go, you won't regret it.......(unless you fall off a sheer drop)

BTW I am NOT saying treat Wales as a trackday, just that it is MUCH more fun and better value for money. We stuck religously to the 30mph limits through villages and quite frankly trying to get anywhere near the National speed limit in some places was scary.

Yes, it was far better than the pics suggest. I found this one, not that clear but do I detect a distinct flame from the back of my Mk2 while keeping with the Scooby?
