Stu_B Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 All the people who are 'intimidated' by them. Is it because you cant see the wearers face? Are you also scared of the much mentioned crash helmet wearer? Is it because you dont understand their language? Do you sit in your hotel room on holiday because you cant understand what the locals are saying? Or is it because all muslims want to blow you up? Just like all irish want to nick your car, and all gay men want to bum you. I'd be more worried about the scum like the man in Vistas 'do you recognise' thread, than a doris with a burkah on doing her weekly shop. As I said earlier though, its a very unusual sight around here and perhaps I would feel differently if they were more common. I like this post - very well put!! I'm about to move into London from the sticks and have been looking at various areas of North London. Earlier this week I was in Finsbury Park (which has a sizeable Muslim population) and whilst waiting to see a property dropped in to a cafe to kill a bit of time. There was a group of five girls in there chatting away wearing (2 head-scarves and 2 veils) and I ended up sat next to them. Got chatting about what the area was like, good places to eat, etc. What got me was how friendly they all were and more to the point how more relaxed and chatty the girls in the veil were. Ultimately, I think the issue is people allowing themselves to be intimidated by differences, rather than embracing difference. 99% of people on this planet are just regular folks trying to live, thrive and survive. Emu & Jimbo. It's threads like these that put me off OSF...
SmokeEm Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 My opinion on this subject is in my Siggy. FIFO
petrolhead Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Ban them, I agree most with Fred Transit and Vista.
sambo Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 I might walk around in a storm trooper outfit.
Nick Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 i agree, ban them, i mean did you all see that case when the british troopes returned from afgan and there was that group of muslims with boards inciting racial hatred towards are troopes. at the end of the day them troops are fighing to keep the country free basicly so they can live in freedom and live the life they have now, yet still have the cheek to demonstrate about the troops returning hime. Its just not right and i think they should be kicked out the country. Sorry if that sounds harsh but its just my opinion
FredTransit Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Think we should get some old skool ford ones made lol old skool ford religion!!! it will prob make the news lol Yes, it is my religion, and I live in a place of worship, and therefore would like to claim exemption for council tax. Further more, Santa Pod is a place of Holy Pilgrimage. The Southampton plant (for me) is the ultimate Holy ground I am declaring Henry's Birthday my religious holiday. For religious reasons, I can't own anything other than a Ford, and if I was to be arrested can't get in a police car if it's a Poxhall. Affixing a parking ticket to my van is an affront to my faith. WHO'S WITH ME?
V6MAT Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 i dont mind, bu7t i dont like it when i walk round england in the rain so i put my hood up and get cars passing that stop and stare at me! so i stare back! Smudger105e Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 I have to say that I am on the fence with this one, I can see for's and against's. I don't feel that it is my place to tell someone what they should or should not wear, we live in a free society. I do however feel that when in Rome, and ours is not a Muslim country. I really don't see why we pussy foot about and allow (in fact pay for) all ethnic minorities their own communities, they should integrate with ours, although that is easier said than done. How many on here would befriend a Pole or a Nigerian immigrant? Not many judging by some of the comments in this thread. If I lived in, say, Spain, I would not expect the Spanish to accomodate me, I would learn their language and customs. I do feel that the Burkha is an unnecessary uniform, forced on the women by the men, who generally from these countries treat their women as second class citizens. I think that the comments about women wearing burkhas because they are mingers is probably just misguided, the vast majority of younger asian women are gorgeous imho. If there was a referendum to vote on whether the burkha can be worn in this Country, which way would I vote? Probably against it being worn, for the same reason as chavs and footy fans etc who cover their faces with a scarf should not be allowed to dress like that...
