oav_andy Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Hi folks, I own a MK2 Mexico and wonder if the car has been known to anyone on here. MK2 Mexico OAV 151R Daytona Yellow First registered at PM Cars in Peterborough 01.08.76 I purchased the car from Retrosport near Dundee in 2003. I have the history from DVLA and the car stayed in the Peterborough area until being shipped up to Scotland. Any info on it's obvious hard life under it's 13 previous owners would be fantastic. Cheers, Andy
Admin Vista Posted August 29, 2010 Admin Report Posted August 29, 2010 Not familiar with the car, the name Retrosport (not Retromotorsport) has been discussed on here a few times in the past though

oav_andy Posted August 30, 2010 Author Report Posted August 30, 2010 Not familiar with the car, the name Retrosport (not Retromotorsport) has been discussed on here a few times in the past though Yeah mate, they are shite. Sold me the Mex as a genuine car but it ended up being a re-shelled rotter. I was wet behind the ears and was none the wiser until the MOT tester stuck a crow bar throught the footwells. He had a go at welding up the footwells but there was nothing to weld them to. A bitumin and rotten metal sandwich for a floor. They built the car up for me, where do I start....... Engine with floating cam seals (lots of oil everywhere) Toasted coil Engine fan fowling radiator Misaligned prop with knackered centre bearing Knackered engine mount rubbers 4 speed box held into auto tunnel with Sierra crossmember with two bolts instead of four No strengthening washers in the floor Front tyres both had slow punctures Spare tyre punctured Two different headlamps. Wiper motor failed within a week Loose door strikers Different locks on each door, key only opens driver door Heater/blower non operative They did replace the engine with one that had..........floating cam seals!!! Payed 3.5k for it and that was seven years ago which was just right for a pukka Mex at that time. Rose tinted specs and all that and fell for all the bullshit. A very valuable lesson learned. Nice car now though, took a while and a few quid, it deserved saving, needless to say i have never set foot in the place since.
sambo Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 I keep hearing bad things about them. How do these guys survive! ??

Old Skool Essex Boy Posted February 7, 2018 Report Posted February 7, 2018 Hi Andy I owned this car in 90’s. She was a beaut. Totally stripped and rebuilt to race in ‘RallyCross.’ I bought it off the fella that had kept a whole picture diary, from shotblast to paint. If I remember rightly, it had been tuned and fettled ready to race which would explain its speed/ brakes/ chassis etc. When I bought it, it’d had interior removed to lighten and meet race rules. I had interior replaced with original, Re decaled, so to the onlooker it was just another Mexico. I may even have some old pictures, I’ll dig them out. Her knickname was ‘Beryl’ BTW lol 2
GrahamJ Posted August 21, 2018 Report Posted August 21, 2018 HI - I owned this car back in the 80's. I bought it from a guy in Haverhill (Suffolk) when it had done 35,000 miles in 1981ish. £2600 I think I paid for it. I lived in Romford / Brentwood (Essex) and sold it in the late 80's when it had done over 100,000 miles. I absolutely loved that car and had great fun in it through my early 20's- am glad (and somewhat surprised) to see it still going 1
