The tax rules for cars already tax exempt and the proposal to introduce cars over 25 years old might be a waste of time, a bill is in its second stage at the house of commons and could be soon made law later this year to introduce compulsory tracking devices to all cars, if passed this could come to effect within ten years.

The charge to fit the equipment will be passed to the current owner of the vehicle, traffic wardens are to be issued devices to scan any car to make sure the tracker is active, any tampering of this equipment to i.e. switch it off burn it blow it up etc could carry up to six month jail sentence.

This will mean pay per mile up to £1.50 at peak times and possible automatic fines if the speed limit is exceeded on any public road, how they would police track days could be fun.

The current road could be phased out in favour of this new law making us pay more to run our cars and possibly the classic cars which we all love so much.

This all sucks and if it does come into force I’m moving to the land of the frog and come back for all the shows.

I tackled the Federation of British Historic Vehicles about this last year, what they told me put me in a right shit mood, apparently there's talk of ending the classic car tax exemption altogether!

thats an interesting point ... this pay as you drive thing surely it would have to be made europe wide or holidayers / tourists would not have the tracking systems in their cars .... no one is gonna pay to have on installed just so they can come on holiday and if they are exempt from the rules people will just buy french / german cars and not re-register them over here and the police will never know because the cars wont show up on the dvla system .....

bloody stupid idea imho

They are already exempt from our current road fund licence system anyway though.
