Fiesta Steve Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Turbo power should pull a 3.5 no probs
PaulMags Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Listen to ter m8 ditch the english.
Admin Vista Posted September 11, 2010 Admin Report Posted September 11, 2010 English forget it mate So many people say..............................but it's not true is it? Assuming road use only, you can put all the power you want through it but if you're running a standard width English axle on an unarched car you probably aren't going to get enough rubber on there to do the diff/half shafts much harm as you'll spin the wheels up before they break. Fit an LSD to it and providing you're using standardish width rubber I suspect you'll be fine. Oh and I'd go with Steves suggestion of a 3.54
Mick The Cabbie Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 English forget it mate ^^^^^^^^what he said^^^^^^^^^ Just 150ish-BHP broke the planet gears in my English axle last year at the Pod. How much fun would it be driving a Cossie powered motor & being frightened to abuse it incase the axle goes bang???
Fiesta Steve Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 There's lots of Cosworth powered cars out there running English axles with no probs although they don't have much grip and end up slower than a Crossflow but thats another storey
turnover Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 trust me if you have a standard yb turbo which is rare pushing 204hp your english wont handle it,go ahead by all means, but we are only giving advise from previous experiances
andygfc Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 An English axle may well survive, but it you're going to buid a cossie powered escort, do it properly first time. It'll work out cheaper in the end
Skimmer Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I run an English axle in my cossie van and it gets some serious abuse and has done for about 18ish months and it still works fine , its also non LSD , though in the past month or so ive started looking for an LSD purely for the sideways fun value .........
PIG Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 a couple of mates have tryed english in the past and if you drive them properly(fooking hard) they WILL smash and keep breaking shafts fact mate
rallyesport04 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 personaly i wouldnt bother with a standard english if your thinking of pod cos it wont take much stick before you have a axle full of broken bits an why bother uprating it to make the english stronger you might as well save the ££££'s on uprated parts an spend them on a atlas that said if you cannot afford one if you drive it sensibly the english will stick it if your car is arched a std atlas can be had for around £100 just move the leaf spring mounts and away you go if its unarched a cheaper option to baby atlas is a narrow atlas found on mk1 3.0 capris but im sure you limited to 6j rims without disks but alot stronger than a english

Really, the only option is 2-piece shafts in a casing width of your choice. It'll cost you nearly 2K but you'll get everything you need (LSD, CWP of your choice) and it wont break. Its par for the course if your building a quick car.
