hi all, recently i've been offered an apprenticeship with a crash repair company which is 33 miles away and i need to sort out a dependable daily drive for the next 2-3 years. i've been looking at 55 onwards fiestas from my local ford dealers and wondered if any of you lovely oldskoolers would like to share your experiences with me?

 

any advice, things to look for, common faults, what they're like to live with - that sort of thing, would be greatly appreciated!

 

i'm looking at 1.25 petrol or preferably 1.4 tdci engines although i'd read that they're known for needing injector seals around the 35k mark?

 

like i say, any info greatly appreciated!

i have a 07 fietsta 1.4 petrol never had problems :thumbsup:

 

 

i obvs haven't drove it on road because i to young but my mum had it before me and she never had any problems :thumbsup:

i work at a main dealers,i wouldn't but a diesel as the injector seals can go and bugger up the injectors,nearly £200 each.

petrol ones are good,watch out for leaking thermostat housings,leaky/noisy water pump,front coil springs breaking,missfires which can be caused by coils or water from the washer jets leaking into the plug gallery and submerging the plugs in water,also the core plugs in the plug gallery can leak.

they are generally good cars but i've just listed the common problems which we deal with, :thumbsup:

I got a 55 reg 1.6 zetec s, the coil packs went at about 50,000 miles and the doors fill up with water inside.

 

The weasal one have a peugeot engine and, as my bro knows best, its had 4 turbos in 5 years.

o yea,forgot about the doors,the drain holes block in the bottom and when u go round a corner it sounds like a Tsunami :mrgreen:

nothing to worry about though,just stick a screwdriver in the drain holes. :thumbsup:

I had an 09 plate 1.4TDCi Titanium for 4 months, did 10k in it myself but the car had 29k when I traded it back in. I had nothing but trouble with it, EGR valve the main problem, oil leaks under the bonnet, terrible smoking, rattles and basically poor build quality. I kept taking it to the Dealer who weren't in the least bit interested. They had it for a whole day, told me there's nothing wrong with it but didn't even open the bonnet. They told there's no common faults with the car but if you look through the forums it would appear they're nothing but trouble. So steer well away from the 1.4TDCi. I've got a 1.9TDi MK5 Golf now and would really recommend one of them any day of the week :thumbsup:

get yourself a older 1.8 deisel non turbo /bullet proof engine will do the miles,mate :thumbsup:

 

im with that. i run a crappy old 1.8 diesel festa and its bullit proof. cambelt yearly and service, never goes wrong :thumbsup:

i see... thanks for the heads up! i thought it would be a smart move to ask on here, after looking around the ford dealers i googled them to get some reviews and all it turned up was a bunch of bleeting daily mail readers whining about labour cost from a main dealers...

 

obviously i'm looking around for an OSF but theres not a lot of choice nearby. really, i'd rather avoid taking on debt for a new (gay plastic generic) econo-box and spend my hard earned on the capri as i'm sure you all would understand :D

 

won't be going back to the ford dealers i don't think...

 

i want a MK1 fiesta but my dad refuses to help me out if i want another OSF, he insists on mediocrity. *sighs*

We had a 53plate 1.4 td and it too had injector seals ,very common and diesel company fixed for under £200

Great car 60mpg and still doing stering service with a girl at local radio station who does 300 miles a week +

just because its newer doesnt mean its more reliable i would look at vws ...

 

 

i just bought a mk2 golf gti as a daily while i look for a capri again the 8v gti was and is a fantastically reliable car and older cars have the advantage that if it does break you can fix it yourself cheaply
