Just a quick one on oils

Hello, Im going to buy oil and filter for a MK3 2.8 Capri this morning so could anyone tell me what oil to use and how much I would need?

Hi mate i use valvoline 20/50 VR1 racing oil its great for old engines and i swear by it alot of guys on here run it with out any trouble.

 

You get 4.55L in a bottle i think im pretty sure one would be enough you can buy it from euro car parts or most local motor factors expect to pay around £20-£25 depending on where you go.

bit late but the valvoline is good stuff, i now used the millers 20-50 also good stuff

I didn't get Valvoline as every where was closed except for Halfords which I ended up buying their own brand which is 5w 30 part synthetic which was in there book but now looking at it it says its for modern engines from 98 onwards even though thats the stuff in the book?

What do you lot think???

The book is wrong, that's too thin and will give you low oil pressure. Whether the pressure will be excessively low I can't say but for sure I wouldn't use it in any classic ford engine of mine.

As a Dutchman I am well into Köln V6's as we do have them in several cubic inches.

I only use Valvoline Turbo V 15W40 minaral oil in every engine I build, sell or maintain.

The Valvoline Racing 20W50 minaral is also top quality for these engines.

 

Valvoline is what Ford used in those days too. Valvoline still rules imo. Real Steel sells Valvoline..............Burton sells Valvoline.............. there must be a reason for it and its not marketing.

 

As for oilfilters.............no FRAM !!!!! Well Fram racing filters are good but thats normaly not what you get at the shop. Ordinairy Orange Fram.....No Way Jose...

Use Mahle OC23 or genuine Ford filters ( they are the same ).
