Billy_smith Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 As above been offered all the running gear out of a granada and was wondering wetha it had been done as i havent really seen alot of the earlier engines used. Can you get off the shelf parts to fit it into a escort?
Fiesta Steve Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 No one uses them 'cos they are slow !
Billy_smith Posted January 23, 2011 Author Report Posted January 23, 2011 well thats all i needed to no lol! cheers steve
Fiesta Steve Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I think its an I4 rather than a duratec, like the 16v RS2000 engine. I'm sure you could tune one up if you really wanted to but there does not seem to be anything 'off the shelf' for these engines.
baz105e Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 as steve said its an i4 engine not a duratec, 2.3 dohc 16v. good for torque but not many tuning possiabilities. good power for a standard lump tho (145 bhp) (202 NM)
Vilho Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I have done that to a s i e r r a. Very nice engine, good torque and response. If I had that sort of engine, I would put it into old skool ford. dare to be different!

Rather confusingly the Duratec is called the I4 as well by Ford, then they like to confuse everyone by using the Zetec name willy nilly and calling Zetec's Duratecs! Martin Bird had an I4 in his Anglia too that went rather well, though cant remember whether that was the 8V version or the 16V.
petrolhead Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 He had the 8v version and it did go very well. I think that was more to do with the rest of the car weighing as much as my breakfast.
2300E Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 im putting this engine in my mk2 cortina. the mk5 rs2000 boys are doing this too with the 2300 galaxy engine which is basically the same engine. i know some one who has done this and is getting 210 bhp by using mk5 rs2000 cams gsxr 750 throttle bodies emerald ecu the 2300 engine has balance shafts in the sump to make it run smooth these need to be removed to achieve these figures take a look at rs2000-16v.com for usefull info on how to do it. here is a picture of mine when i tried it in the hole
baz105e Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 only an 8v but it fits quite well in the small anglia engine bay
redrocket Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 this looks more like a jelly mouuld 8v? which has the same mounts as a pinto? nice to see someone doing this 2.3 16v conversion! I cant see why more people dont as they should be cheap as chips for 150bhp standardish with decent economy
2300E Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 some dont like this engine because it is heavy. not much heavier than a pinto. but heavier than a zetec. how much money will it cost to get 150bhp out of a zetec. the i4 is a cheap 150bhp

The pinto was also called the I4, pinto is a nickname, I4 stands for inline 4 cyl If you call it a twink most peeps know what you meen though , except old gits who'll assume you meen a lotus
oliwally Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 how much money will it cost to get 150bhp out of a zetec. the i4 is a cheap 150bhp These are so rubbish I cant begin to tell you. Heads on the 8v corrode,16v crack, both warp at the drop of a hat. back in the day when i was 18/19 and had started working at a ford dealer to finish my apprenticeship,i was doing maybe 2-3 a week, all different faults. by mid 2005 we had to buy heads from scrap yards,if they had them and recondition those as you cant get them any more. last 2 i used a dremmel to drill out the cracks/corrosion and fill with chemical metal and some hose to fill in and shape the repairs. that was then sent off for skimming. horrid engine, followed by the horrid early zetecs with burnt valves or poxy leaking/shagged oil pumps.
2300E Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 i too worked for a ford main dealer from 1986 to 1999 and have never experienced this problem. the mk5 rs2000 boys dont seem to have this problem either as far as i understand

baz105e Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 what goes wrong with the inlet manifold ?
oliwally Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 what goes wrong with the inlet manifold ? They corrode if they have the alloy one, both faces start to eat away and then piss coolant. not a nice job either this was on the 16v grannys
baz105e Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 so what should i look out for on my s ierra 8v ?
