I done an oil and filter change about 5 weeks ago and checked oil other day and it was just over the minimum line so she must be burning it off? I was at work and my father in law got me some oil from halfords as he was near there, But I'm not sure if I can use part synthetic?

I have read not to use it and also read you can and in halfords in their flip chart it say you can use it??

I'm a bit confused and not sure if I should top her up with it?? Oh yeah its a 2.8 Capri!

Cheers

What oil is it? If it's a modern thin oil then there's every chance it's being burnt off. I stick to the originally recommended 20/50 for old fords

Cheers for the quick reply!

When I changed oil I used halfords 10w40 think that was a semi-synthetic? The oil my father in law bought was halfords 10w40 part synthetic - for car built after 1990, mines an '83

Seem to remember seeing a 20/50 "classic" oil in Halfords, used to use Duckhams years ago,not sure if it's still around though, I use Mobile semi synthetic in the Cossie.....

I'm going into town in the morning so I might as well change it in halfords just in case? I will look out for the 20w50 classic. I may go for something thats not synthetic which I guess that was all there was around back in the swinging 80's!

Don't top it up, drain out what you have in there and replace it. Don't mix mineral and synthetic oil

Bugger... I have already done it! About a litre? What would happen mixing the two?

they wont mix, same effect as mixing oil and water, they just stay seperate, best to drain it and the change the oil totally
