£100 daily LEZ Charge inside the M25

Anyone gonna be affected by the proposed £100 a day LEZ charge for operating older vans inside the M25?

Since Boris has announced that as from 3rd January 2012, certain vans will be subject to a daily LEZ charge of £100 just to operate within the London Low Emission Zone,

 

From 3 January 2012 the LEZ emissions standards will become more stringent. More vehicles will be affected, and those that are already affected will need to meet tighter emissions standards. This means if your van is 10 years or older you will have to pay a minimum of £100 per day to enter the LEZ.

 

The LEZ operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including weekends and public and Bank Holidays

In a way, yes.

 

I work for a removals company (I maintain their vehicles). We have had to buy basically a whole new fleet and the older trucks need new exhaust systems at around 5k a pop plus the on cost of filter cleaning/replacment.

 

How does this effect me?, well the housing market is not great, people aren't moving house, sometimes we are not so busy and we are being forced into spening hundreds of thousands of pounds I suspect the company doesn't have which means the chances of me getting a pay rise in the near future is slim. Although the cost of living increaes daily my wages don't increase at all so I become poorer by the day.

 

I am however greatful to have a job at all in these tough times.

We have to change our recovery truck for one 06 or newer huge investment when things are tight ,sold my P reg T4 recovery last year as knew this was coming .

Another stealth tax and i for one can see a load of people getting caught ,press have been slow to pick up on this ,it affects campers too my dads camper is a 99T boxer with only 30k from new ,has to be sold as they cant take it out of their drive !

I think it's harsh on the average guy on the street, we have been really busy at work with all the phone calls of people not wanting to but having to get rid of their old vans and buying ones a bit newer from me

 

OK, so I guess my company is getting the benefit of selling more vans, but it's still harsh

I'm really angry about this new rule. My dad lives with his disabled wife in Kingston. His daily runner is an S plate nissan vanette 2.3d with a wheelchair lift in the back, Basically a people carrier. It cost him 4 grand 2 years ago and now with this the round ones new rule it may as well be scrap! He only does about 20 miles a week in it and to keep it it'll need a 1500 quid filter fitted to it or pay the £100 a day charge.

 

There's no exemptions at all to this new rule which sucks - Great government!
