Mrs O/H/C Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 I cant decide which one to get ...any suggestions welcome Or indeed another phone that makes the grade
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 I've got an HTC Desire. I used to have an iphone 3g. I've never used an iphone 4 so can't do a direct comparison. Plus points. Camera is very good. You can customise the screens to exactly how you like it. ie: Put 'widgets' on the home page, shortcuts to apps etc. Can easily set an mp3 as the ringtone. you can have favourite contacts so you don't have to search through the contacts to find people. Easier to 'root'. (It's called Jailbreaking on the iphone). I've installed a custom ROM which has some nice tweaks to it. The screens look nicer. Negative points. The battery doesn't last as long as my iphone, however, rooting it and installing this custom rom has improved it. Can't think of any others...
Savvi Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 Samsung Galaxy s is another smart phone of that type. I had a similar predicament a while ago and decided to go Iphone, i have to say when compared to others i find it so much easier to use and set up, my brother recently got a Samsung and although thinks it's good he's struggled to get use to certain functions. On the neg side once you go iphone i think it will be hard to go back as their software and platforms are only good on their phone. All in all it's the best phone i've had and wished i'd have done it earlier !!!!
tazrocks88 Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 personally i prefer the sony xperia phones! i have friends that have gone from android to iphone and others that have gone iphone to android they are both good its just personal prefrance!
johnny_h Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 I got the iPhone 4. Very impressed with the quality. Mainly video and camera improvements and of course overall speed over my old 3g. I use it for everything: Sat Nav, Diary, Email, Gaming, Freeview TV, Camera and HD Video and of course ipod with itunes video and music. Don't forget the iPhone 5 is due out soon.
wigglychief Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 i have a htc desire, love the phone but i am currently on my 3rd phone since getting it last december! The screen got blotches all over it on one and the battery would just instantly drain on the second. They are good at sending out replacements though! soon as im due for upgrade im going Iphone 4!
Badgerman85 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 i have a desire and it is awesome, although i did wipe the standard software off and replace it with some custom stuff because i didnt like the interface HTC had chosen to use with android! But if you can get used to sense its an awesome phone, and has a flash player which the iphone currently doesnt and wont for a while, so you can access way more websites!! Check out the new motorola atrix, its a dual-core processor much like many peoples pc's and laptops etc and is meant to be a bit of a beast, it also has a gorilla-glass display so almost impossible to scratch up or damage!

Totally agree, i have the iphone4. There is nothing that can beat it out on the market - yet.

There is nothing that can beat it out on the market - yet. except almost every other smart phone out there!! iphones got no flash player and the wifi tether sucks, also if you dont use the case then you dont get signal, and as for power goes it fails in comparison to the new series of android phones, youre paying for a shiny piece of metal with an apple logo on it, doesnt mean its better, its just apple want you to think its better!
sambo Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 I'm due an upgrade very soon and i have narrowed it down to the Samsung Galaxy S 2, the motorola Atrix or the HTC desire. Decisions, decisions......
Badgerman85 Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 I'm due an upgrade very soon and i have narrowed it down to the Samsung Galaxy S 2, the motorola Atrix or the HTC desire. Decisions, decisions...... if you can get a Galaxy S 2 or the Atrix DO IT, they will both blow a desire out of the water, the atrix is supposedly insanely fast! and the galaxy s 2 is a beast of a phone as well! may be worth checking to see when google/samsung release their next "nexus" handset, and these all come with the original version of android which is way way better!
Mrs O/H/C Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 Upgraded today ..ending up getting the Galaxy s ..the guys in the shop get a phone of their choice as a perk and they ALL had the Galaxy s so it spoke volumes to me So...off to play with it now
Admin Vista Posted June 1, 2011 Admin Report Posted June 1, 2011 Interesting that no one mentioned a blackberry when talking about smart phones. Do any of the phones discussed have the push email facility that I currently have on my Blackberry? It's really all I care about, all the other flash whatsits and fancy cameras are nice but with the exception of perhaps the camera, I don't use them.
w p e Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 i dont think you can beat a PHONE that makes PHONE CALLS what they where ment for i ended up with a xperia mini and can't stand it poxy touch screens im gonna fix the speaker on my 5yr old w700c and press some buttons
Mrs O/H/C Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 IVE GOT THE PERFECT PHONE Yours is ancient !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Badgerman85 Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 most smart phones have an email push facility, infact they can be joined to almost any kind of email system fairly easily, blackberrys are only really good as a business solution as they can be tied in directly with exchange using blackberry enterprise server, then your whole network just ties in together, but as a consumer phone they are fairly pointless!
Admin Vista Posted June 2, 2011 Admin Report Posted June 2, 2011 but as a consumer phone they are fairly pointless! How so? By push email I mean email delivered directly to the handset, not a system whereby I have to go online via the handset and check it on a web based email server. Which (other than BB) of these smart phones has the former?
sambo Posted June 3, 2011 Report Posted June 3, 2011 Going for the Sony ericcson Xperia Arc. Looks better than the others and is just as good.
Stiggy Posted June 3, 2011 Report Posted June 3, 2011 but as a consumer phone they are fairly pointless! How so? By push email I mean email delivered directly to the handset, not a system whereby I have to go online via the handset and check it on a web based email server. Which (other than BB) of these smart phones has the former? Just about all Nokia smart phone. My 5800XM, N86, N82, all have push email.
Badgerman85 Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 as do all android phones, whether theyre linked in via exchange pop or imap! Blackberrys were invented as a business solution and thats all they'll ever be until they jazz things up a bit and make the OS way less clunkly! Its android all the way really, iPhones are just a branded gimick that steve jobbs has managed to convince a load of people they "need" just coz it has an apple logo on the back
andygfc Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 I didn't buy into that apple hype, and got a galaxy s, does all the things that an iphone can and more, not that I know how to use it though!!!!
