Howdy to you all, this is my 1st post to this forum.

Totally love old fords, but lack time, space and skill to keep one at the moment. My fun is delivered by a little old Caterham (with English Axle and Xflow motor), which brings me to the point of this posting....

I am currently running a very well put together XFLOW engine. This was built in 93 from a New AX block from ford. It was put together and upgraded between 93 and 95 by Roger King, a very well respected Xflow Guru in the Caterham circles. It is speced at 155Bhp, 1800cc, twin 40s, forged pistons, uprated camshaft (244), steel rocker gear, tufftrided crankshaft, uprated bearings, duplex timing set, uprated valve springs (doubles), lighter dowelled flywheel, uprated big end bolts, dry sump kit, big valve head, the porting was opened up and bronze guides fitted. Currently running a Megajolt to excellent effect.

I recently re-built the car and would like to move to a more modern power plant. I know I could break the engine, but this kind of goes against my soul as it is a very good engine (wide power band and sounds fantastic) so would like to see what it would be worth as a running unit. Total mileage on engine in this spec is around 20k miles.

Anyone like to give me an idea of its value ?

In Philadelphia, it's worth 50 bucks...................

Welcome to OSF and no, sorry, I've no idea on value. But please note that forum policy is for all for sale threads to have a price and location so if you are intending selling it on here you'll need to work out how much you want for it. Perhaps best not ask your potential buyers how much it's worth as potentially some of them will undervalue it in the hope of a cheap deal.

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome. I have an idea in mind what I think it is worth and would of course follow the guide lines if I listed it for sale.

My real point is, is it worth trying to sell as a complete package or worth more to break it and sell the parts. I would not like to do the latter, especially if the value difference is small. I would prefer it to go to someone who would appreciate it and fit it in something they cherish rather than someone sticking it in a stock car and ragging it to death...

To be honest it will be worth much more in parts.

Anyone that wants a 150bhp Crossflow does not want or need the expense of buying an AX blocked engine when a 711m will surffice.

Someone wanting to build a 1800cc monster will probably pay upwards of £500 for the block alone. I paid £200 for my AX block but have seen them going for around £1000 but they are usually on smaller bores with many lifes left.

Morcheen, I am looking to put in a new BlackTop Zetec on Throttle Bodies etc.

Steve,

I am starting to come to the same conclusions. Maybe the easiest thing is to put it up on Ebay and see if there are any takers, if not then break it...

Thanks all for your inputs.
