With regards to them being NA engines; a standard Blacktop head and cams will flow 400bhp, Silvertops heads aren't miles behind. Pistons and rods need changing (best to start with a Focus RS Mk1 Zetec engine ideally if you're not after mega power) but cranks are good for 600+bhp.

Liam had quite a few tries with modded oil pump drives if I remember correctly, still had to go dry sumped in the end at no littlle expense.

Cost wise I still think a yb turbo would be cheaper in the long run , never

mind the amount of hassle you would have creating a zetec turbo rear drive

set up which is not to be under estimated !

Surely, turbo'ing a Zetec is much more expensive?

Sure, you can get a donor lump for peanuts but you have to use forged, steel internals which are not cheap.

Plus the conversion parts to fit it onto an Escort etc.

A YB makes more sense surely?

And they look twenty times better than a Zetec (unles it has a BDA cam cover on it!)

Admittedly, I picked up most of my engine bits over time when I saw good deals come up so it doesn't owe me anything like what it should do.

It totally depends on what kind of power or spec you want and how much money you have. You can build a 'budget' Zetec turbo using low comp pistons, on standard rods, a standard head, cams and inlet manifold with a aftermarket turbo and manifold along with all the other associated gubbins for less than £1500 I reckon. That will make 300bhp safley all day long and is common for a lot of front wheel drive boys.

That's the same as secondhand YB making the same power without the managament.

There could be a nice 2.4 nasp Cossie YB for sale in a month or so, race internals, 265 brake, 244 torque at the flywheel, already fitted with Nos and DTA management......
