flyingbanana Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 neither does water based paint and metal..................honestly who thought lets put water on to a car so it will rot quicker
tazrocks88 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Report Posted January 22, 2007 so are there any bad stories about them then? i just read an article in practicle classics about using them!!!
flyingbanana Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 ie heared no story about it yet...apart from bodyshop plases have had bad luck it getting it to go on right
xpackken Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 New rules say now that bodyshops are not to use paint that has solvent in so we are now using new weter based stuff anyway .. _________________ Portuguese Forum
spooner Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 what i've been told must use a booth to dry, needs constant warm air over it. most bodyshops use water based then put 2k laq over it ? u will be allowed celly for restro work
Cookie Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 what i've been told u will be allowed celly for restro work So what is the main difference between celly and 2 pack paints? I have always had my cars done in 2 pack at my mate's shop, so I just went with 2 pack on my recent first attempt myself. What are the pro's and cons of each?

What are the pro's and cons of each? 2k you have to put hardner with it and have special breathing gear has its gives off fumes that can kill you.also its a better finsh cell is simply mixed with thinners, also cell you can rub down again if you have probs with 2k i belive you cant
Rick Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 celluslose is a bit thin for a respray but sets nice and hard... id only use that for repairs and such. 2k is awesome 2 part paint, poisonous though and if you spray it like i did without the 2k thinners it never sets properly... doh waterbased is supposed to be shit and chips off all over the place. get sum 2k while you can
SAMMYBOY Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 We use waterbased paint in my work...All the painters hate it..Too runny, to thin, takes too long to bake. Costs a fortune. Our tubs of ICI laquer cost about £300 each. All four of our ovens have been waterbase ready, since our place was built in 1996, but we only started using waterbased few years ago, and 2 pack stuff goes out production end of this year i think
crapichris Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 I have painted 2 cars now - a MK1 Capri in red cellulose and a part re-spray on a MK3 Capri in 1K (I believe it is an acrylic). Both were sprayed outside so wind, temperature and flying insects all affected the results. The beauty of cellulose is you can lay it on thick and cut it back - covers all the c*ck ups and runs! I bought 4 litres and spent a long time cutting it back with wet'n'dry. The 1k was much more akward to spray and also needed a clear lacquer coat - much depended on the air pressure and wind direction but the finish definately was not as good as the MK1. I understand that you can still buy cellulose if the original paint finish was the same so MK1 Capri cellulose is ok, MK3 ain't. Seems outr local Autopaints store doesn't stock cellulose or acrylic, just 2 pack. There are stockists of cellulose around but costs are climbing steeply. I also saw in another car mag that you can use 2 pack for 15 minutes at a time with an organic face filter - bullsh*t or true?
mr zefect Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 I have been using water base for about 11 years with no probs i love it i would hate to go back to solvent base coat also you have to put laquer over the top to make the base coat shiney ant to protect it.
