Twinkle Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 could someone give me the low down on fitting an xe, which lump to go for, bits needed and rough price3 for parts please
PIG Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 gte or gsi lump with the coscast head, chassis mount kit, manta sump is best.yukspeed do all the bits for this conversion.there exhaust manifolds fit shit on a mk1 escort(vechicle i done).i used an mbe mapped ignition with 48's.you will need to get the ditributor machined flush at the back and coil pack it.good power tho and not a bad conversion imo .hth
Twinkle Posted January 23, 2007 Author Report Posted January 23, 2007 cheers m8 doesnt sound too bad, what do they put out bhp wise standard?
Mk 1 Mark Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Around 170bhp out the box And lighter than a pinto Manifold, RWD Sump, Bellhousing are the main bits that are expensive. SBD sell a blacking of plates for the rear of the head,With the bug for the dizzy to back of the cam. (take old dizzy and exchange it) They sell MBE ignition only ecu and looms for 2D Or even 3D with the extra advance for the carbs/ignition 45/48 DCOE Chassis mount kit for the engine You can find most of the parts second hand, But they are still not that cheap and they do get snapped up But you can buy most parts and drive away... YOU SEEN THE LIGHT THEN TWINK

erick Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 N/A Cosworth on twin 48s 200-220bhp, £4000 to £5000 should be enough to get up and running
antz Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 xe is cheaper than a cossie and if your going cossie it has to be turbo'd in my opinion
Mk 1 Mark Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 xe is cheaper than a cossie and if your going cossie it has to be turbo'd in my opinion Have to agree My Mate is building a 2 Dr Mk1 Cortina Cosworth Turbo powered Should be out in the next few months

Admin Vista Posted January 23, 2007 Admin Report Posted January 23, 2007 I have an engine builder on my door step that builds shit hot XE's, you never know, you might be able to tempt him with a deal on your twin cam towards a hot XE http://www.jreracingengines.com/ he's right next to a fabricator that specialises in installing them too, they were both his companies once but he sold off the fabrication side of it to concentrate on engines (and is currently building mine ) http://www.jremotorsport.com/The%20Company.htm
Mrp Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Oh yes he knows his onions vista many a rally car powered by his vaux motors, He can build a 1.4 to 205 brake spec!!
erick Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 The XE is a great engine, good power but will still be very expensive in the end but the main thing for me it's not a ford lump.
