has anyone built there own exhaust before. i have bought the manifold but making the rest including the rear silencer. has anyone else made an exhaust silencer before as its going to be the only one on a 2.5" system and needs to do its job. i would buy a system but on a budget so cant.I quite like a bit of tin bashing but im interested to see what you pack it with. i cant show how its getting on as no camera skillz at all.

I made a system for the race car many years ago including the silencer. The first 1/3 of the silencer was an expansion chamber to take some of the energy out of the gasses. Then the other section I filled with rockwool, the perforated tube I used had holes approx 3mm diameter.

Last year I made a stainless system for the green Capri and used a couple of Jetex silencers.

These people do some useful bits....

I made the exhaust on my escort.

Straight peice of exhaust tube from a local supplier. run it straight off the end of the manifold. Put a slight bend in it as it comes under the axle ( I heated it with the gas bottles) and bolt/weld on the rear silencer from a volvo. (I think I used one from a 240, but your friendly exhaust factor will probably let you look thru their catalogues if you ask nicely). Then either a short peice of pipe or trim to bring it the last couple of inches past the valance. Cost me about £25 in total.

I got a load of jetex bits from Burtons, I couldnt get an exhaust for my Isuzu piazza at a sensible price, all you need is to make up some mounting brackets, or cut the old ones of the existing exhaust and weld them on to the new, job done
