dacar Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 I recently sent 2 inner spotlights from my RS2000 to Ashford Chroming for full refurb after emails confirming a price and what they would do. I packed them carefully and made sure the box was marked with the words 'FRAGILE' & 'GLASS' on every side and in red ink. I took it to the local post office and paid for special delivery and insured them stating what was in the package. They were signed for the next day but I did not hear from Ashford for a few days. I emailed them and they replied by stating one of the lights was broken on arrival. After a few emails they eventually returned my lights and I strongly suspect that Ashford have broken the lens in an attempt to remove it although I will never prove this. The other light had never been opened from its packaging and was in the same condition as sent. I'm now left with a broken light and out of pocket with an on-going claim via the Post Office for my damage. Not a good experience at all.
Admin Vista Posted December 7, 2011 Admin Report Posted December 7, 2011 Bit of a bummer, at least you had the good sense to make sure they were properly insured. Watch the PO don't try to weasle out of paying up by claiming they were insufficiently packed though. Do you mean RS2000 inner headlights or do you genuinely mean spot lights?
The Transplanter Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 I hate to break this to you but the Post office, Royal mail or any other courier company will not cover you for glass
Admin Vista Posted December 7, 2011 Admin Report Posted December 7, 2011 I hate to break this to you but the Post office, Royal mail or any other courier company will not cover you for glass Thinking about it, yes I ran into this problem recently when posting an underwater light. Even though the glass was nearly a 1/2" thick, only 6" across and thoroughly protected, they wouldn't touch it and said they'd send it but it was my risk. Good luck making a claim in any case.
The Transplanter Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Im actually a retailer of VW Parts (ducks for cover ), and we often send out aluminium framed windows to customers and its basically at our own risk, and have not found a courier who will cover glass at all When I first started out on the mail order side of things I used to use the Royal Mail and sent out one of these windows to a customer who signed for it as damaged. Knowing what I knew I sent another out to the customer and had the damaged one collected. When it turned up the whole alloy frame was bent and twisted but none of the glass was broken so i phoned the RM and they said they would have the damaged item collected for inspection. A few days later I get a phone call telling me that they will not honour the claim as it was glass and that they did not cover glass blah blah! When I explained the glass wasnt broken and it was a metal frame, they replied that it didnt matter as there was glass in the parcel It really wound me up as there were footprints all over the box which was obviously one of their staff! As a business that was the last time I ever used the RM
dacar Posted December 9, 2011 Author Report Posted December 9, 2011 I'm not hopefull of getting anything from Royal Mail but I'll try anyway. The lights are the inner headlights which are Cibie and I cannot seem to get any genuine replacements that fit without modification. I have about 4 lying about my garage each needing the reflectors re done. I still suspect that the damage was caused by Ashford but will never prove it.
