sambo Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 What difference do the choke sizes in sidedraughts make?? say for instance a pair of 48's has chokes of 38mm as opposed to 40mm etc?? And how hard are they to change? Cheers.
Fiesta Steve Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 A big difference. Its what determines the drivabiltiy of your engine and the amount of power you can achieve. They are very easy to change, but can sometimes be a little tight if they've been in some old carbs for 20 years.
ratman Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 I need a set of 4 40mm chokes for webber 48's any one
CéDriC Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 This could be interesting, could gave a good starting point.... RR adjustement will be best...
sambo Posted January 27, 2007 Author Report Posted January 27, 2007 Ok, i have a carb'ed cosworth with 48's and the chokes are 38mm. So if i increase the choke size what characteristics of the engine will change, i.e low end power or more top end HP??? I have 45's on my pinto and the chokes are 36mm. I think retro ford should do a RR feature!!
erick Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 The larger the choke size the slower the air speed at low rpm, not good for a road car.
erick Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 I would be tempted to try the engine as is, fit it check for oil pressure run It up see whats happens, it can only go bang Sambo where did you get the engine from the spec is like the one I was watching on ebay and was removed before the end of the auction.
sambo Posted January 27, 2007 Author Report Posted January 27, 2007 The engine was in Pevensey in east sussex. yes it was on ebay and he took it off for me. well chuffed as it was only 20 mins away too!!
Gonzo Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 and the selfish swine hasn't had the decency to invite me round for a ganders at it yet! I reckon his missus is withholding bedroom niceties until he finishes the diy. he'll have a head you can eat cereal out of before long.
