Posse Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Doe’s anyone know when they were first produced ?
PaulMags Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 you're not thinking of buying one?there's not many genuine ones about.theres one on ebay but it dont look gen to me.kit dont look ridht for a start and i'm sure they were'nt fibreglass when they were built.I may be wrong tho it was a long time ago now.
Posse Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 No paul never my friend has just brought one but its on a P reg I just wasn’t sure when they came out . He doesn’t want it now tho he wants a mk1 instead
tim Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 a, pretty sure the kits were fitted at the dealers and ive seen them on very early mk2 Rs2000s
RS2kSX Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 i think there were three press cars off production line in Germany, there are a couple of different variations to the front spoiler fitting, blended, bolted. the rear has a std popular rear bumper all official kits are fiberglass made by license from fibersport with ford logo in molding. additional fibersport kits have different rear molding to keep the rs bumper & not allowed to incorporate the ford logo all official ford kits were an series X optional extra & dealer fit so varied from shop to shop feel free to correct me
MEXICO_PETE Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 You are correct re the official ford pressings/logo. They were available from 1975(P reg), i.e the first mk2 RS's. I know this because I'm an old fart and have been into RS cars from a very early age! Also purchased an early car with original x-pack. Didn't actually take delivery of the car due to circumstances beyond my control!!! BOO HOO! Im over it now???
Posse Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 Thanks for the tips ill go and have another look and see if it has this moulding on it The back bumper was like normal with plastic end caps from what i remember.
stu Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 the realy genuine ones had the kit held on with wood screws & rust.............
dacar Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 The official advertising labelled them as buy what you like from off the shelf bolt on kits. Included arch kits, wheels, twin 40's 45's, Grp 4 Air Filter and various other Grp 4 equipment including suspension etc. If I remember right the brochure said that you bought what you liked and made it your choice. That would tend to suggest that none of them were actually made as x-pack more a car with after market parts, as we know capri, fiesta, granada and escort came with additional x-pack parts. I may well be wrong but I've never saw an actual complete car x-pack new price list from the many original Ford retail lists I've read in various magazines.
MEXICO_PETE Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 yer right Dave, The parts were options and you had to specify what you wanted on your car.
