shaun1.6ghia Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Having problems with tyres poping off the rim, 175-50-13 tyres on 6.5-7inch banded escort steels, powdercoated. they slip and spin on the rim then push the side wall off and drop all their air. tryed tubeing and pop'd it, tryed 40psi and still happens, tryed bead seal and it still spins the tyre and splits the bead..... only happening on rear wheels. any ideas peeps?????
GJUK Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 I have 185 50's on a 7" alloy. Maybe 175 is a little too much stretch?
Fiesta Steve Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Nobody else seems to have these problems though. I'd suggest its a problem with the rim ??
Posse Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 yeah must be the rim I have 175/50’s on mine and the rims are 8in.
banarama Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 i have them as well they seem to grip ,they pretty knackered again.but dont come away from the rim
macrs2k Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 Yip i have 175/50r13 tyre on my 7" rims.. no hassle with them
James HPE Motorsport Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 Maybe the powder coat isnt allowing it to grip? Maybe try keying the powder coat where the bead sits?! 175/50's on a 7 inch rim is so common now so you shouldnt have any hassle!
Andrade Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 I paint the inside of all my rims with hammerite so the tyres sticks to the rim properly. Never had any air leaks or any of the problems you mentioned, perhaps it's a cheap enough to test
shaun1.6ghia Posted June 11, 2012 Author Report Posted June 11, 2012 Thanks guys, tubed them as was getting mad, popped one on the way to classic, was juat a pin prick and hope things go ok now.
