Ive just got a fine as the dvlc had lost thier records when i sent the V5 back when i sold the car, I sold a mk1 cortina to a member on here over 6 years ago, he in turn sold it on to another member on here, now the dvlc has written to me and said i have to pay a fine as they did not recieve the V5 when i sold it, i explained to them that i had sent it to them and they must have lost it and thier reply was that if i didnt recieve a letter to say they recieved it i should have called them. I said so you expect me to contact you in case you dont do your job properly ????, anyway to cut a long story short i got nowhere with them and so i have to pay the £55 fine or i go to court...so the moral is be careful when you sell a car even the ones you sold several years previously.

Any comments on this

Has anyone lost a case in court for this yet as ive only seen wins so far.I sold a van and 4 years later they wanted me to pay a fine and tow fees for no tax when i said i sold it 4 years ago they said they dont care.Turns out he had put it in his name but because they could not find him they came after the owner before. i got a fine of 400pound well i never paid it and it went on for like 6 months,They will try it on.

this is interesting, when i phoned them they just said it was up to me to make sure i sent the V5 to them (which i did) and then to make sure they wrote to confirm ( that they have done thier job properly) that they have changed the paperwork. They just was not interested in anything else. When i said id write to them to complaint the cheeky cow on the line said you had better send it registered post in case we lose it !!!!!

to be honest i havnt a clue if its a new ruling antway im going to pay the fine and get it out the way, ive got enough problems at the moment with poss redundancy so i dont need it hanging round my neck. I written a nasty letter to go with the cheque to explain my case again and that if they had any decency they would look into it and quash this case and return my cheque uncashed, not going to hold my breath though lol

DVLA are quite good at not doing anything with the stuff you post to them. :banghead:

Though strangely, they always seem to manage to receive and cash cheques they're posted without any mishap!

I should point out that both the new owners of the car who are members on here have as good as offered to pay the fine, but as its in my name i guess im responsible but it just goes to show how this forum operates, thanks to both anyway

I had the same recently. I sold a scooter back end of 2010.roughly 2 months ago i got an email from the guy asking if i had sent my part off as he had never received anything. He applied for a new one and 2 weeks later I got a fine for it.

thankfully i am very anal when it comes to paperwork so promptly sent back a reply with a photocopy of my copy of the completed logbook with a note telling them to forward to fine to the post office or their post department as I had done my bit !!

Never heard anything back from them ..

Always photocopy or take a picture with your phone etc of it before you

send it off.
