My brother has a mk1 escort shell, had it 20+yrs

He has the registration no. but has lost the v5 and vin plates and has moved house many times

How would he go about getting a new v5?

If he hadn't moved and was already the registered keeper he could have got one quite easily over the phone (according to the website link below). But as he's moved it won't be so easy as he will need the VIN number, I take it it's not on the strut top anymore?

If he is the registered keeper and remembers the address he was at when he registered it, is it an option to do it over the phone and set up a Royal mail forwarding service (for his name only) at that previous address to his new one. Then when the replacement V5C turns up, send it back with the address change request filled in, making a note of the VIN number first obviously.

Alternatively, you need to establish the VIN number somehow. I've heard people say this can be accomplished with an HPI check but I don't know how true this is.

When I recently bought a 2005 car, doing and HPI the engine and shell numbers were displayed on the results, not sure if you could do this for an older car though?

filled out a form for a new logbook with only the reg and left the chassis no. blank.got it back no problem.but this was about 5 years ago so might have changed since then.
