Admin Vista Posted November 23, 2012 Admin Report Posted November 23, 2012 So who's your money on and who would you prefer to win? Me, I've always been a fan of Jenson Button (though I acknowledge he's probably not quite on par as a driver with Vettel, Alonso or Hamilton) and am not much keen on either of the two protagonists that are in with a shout on Sunday..................but as I have to choose one, I guess I'll go with Alonso as being more deserving of the pair. So, who's your money on?
Admin Vista Posted November 23, 2012 Author Admin Report Posted November 23, 2012 So, the hopes so far are for either Mr Charimsa (fat and over the hill) or a dead guy who crashed a lot. I guess Alonso and Vettel are safe from any challenge from either of them. Any real petrol heads got an opinion?
Posse Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 Vettel I'm gutted I'm going to miss this .
Bigfish Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 i think vettel will get it. but i would like alonso he hasnt had the best car but has had a brillaint session
Mrs O/H/C Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 I would think it will be Vettel unless he breaks etc
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Vettel! Best driver by far!!!
Admin Vista Posted November 24, 2012 Author Admin Report Posted November 24, 2012 Vettel! Best driver by far!!! Why do you think that? I think it's too early in his career to make that assumption. To be the best driver you need to be capable of winning in something other than the best car. Not only is he yet to achieve that but he's also been beaten by drivers with cars inferior to his. Best current drivers for me are probably Lewis Hamilton and Alonso. Best of all time (loathe to admit it) I would give to Schumacher. His comeback may not have been a success but his brilliance at his peak was undeniable........history may have told a different story had Senna still been around though.
Stiggy Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Vettel does have an issue when put under pressure. Hamilton tends to let the bad times effect him, almost like a spoilt kid. Button seems to be in permanent "Sunday Afternoon Trip To The Country Mode". Alonso definitely has the tools but that dam Red Italian crap heap keeps letting him down. Would be interesting if they had random driver swaps to see who has true talent or if it's the car.
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Don't forget what Vettel did in the Torro Rosso! The end of his stint in that proved his worth! I have worked with Vettel in his junior single seater career and his was in a league of his own! Red bull don't have the best car anymore, and the rest of them are just premadonna's!!! Mark my words, the next best thing in F1 in the next few years will be a Portuguese kid called Antonio Felix da Costa!
Admin Vista Posted November 24, 2012 Author Admin Report Posted November 24, 2012 I disagree. In the 2nd half of the season RB have had the fastest car, at most races, by a country mile. In the first half of the season, when he didn't, he was nowhere. Hamilton on the other hand has only briefly had the fastest car and but for a series of mechanical failures / team cock ups would probably be leading the championship, or at least in contention for the title today.
Admin Vista Posted November 24, 2012 Author Admin Report Posted November 24, 2012 Well, the scene is set for Massa to get bullish with Vettel in finding a way past him in the first corner, this resulting in a first corner off that takes them both out. Alonso then to sweep through in a wet race and take third place and the title. Remember where you heard it first
Tom E Cropp Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Don't forget what Vettel did in the Torro Rosso! The end of his stint in that proved his worth! James HPE Motorsport Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 See, some people talk sense ay Tom!!! Alonso is old hat and is only in it for the money! Hamilton is an arrogant twonk and is only in it for the money! Button is good, but he's too soft! Vettel just wants to win! Plus webber hasn't exactly been setting the world alight! Who says red bill have the best car anyway? I think Vettel would get the best out of any car! Just my opinion!
Tom E Cropp Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 i have to agree with you there harris! why would lewis leave mclaren to drive for a sub optimal team just scraping the top ten! money thats why! maybe hes saving up for a 2.2 all steel pinto powered mk1!
Admin Vista Posted November 24, 2012 Author Admin Report Posted November 24, 2012 i have to agree with you there harris! why would lewis leave mclaren to drive for a sub optimal team just scraping the top ten! money thats why! Fortunes change, that same team won both the constructors and drivers titles as Brawn GP in 2009. Red Bull Racing meanwhile traces its lineage back to Stewart Racing and subsequently Jaguar. The former had mild success for a small team but the latter were hopeless given Ford's resources, look how RB turned it around with Adrian Newey's genius? It still took them 4 to 5 years though. I'd say Hamilton has made a career defining change, he's won the title with McLaren and now not only has he a new team to prove himself too and with, but one that will probably throw the majority of their resources behind him as their no1 driver. McLaren were never going to do that and have failed to give him a championship winning car for the last 4 years. In the whole history of F1 there have only been 7 drivers to win the world championship with more than one team, even Senna himself didn't achieve it (though he probably would have with Williams some time in the mid 90's had he not died in 1994). The list is below and all the names on it are big deals in F1 [*:p57nc0re]Juan Manuel Fangio[*:p57nc0re]Graham Hill[*:p57nc0re]Jackie Stewart[*:p57nc0re]Emerson Fittipaldi[*:p57nc0re]Niki Lauda[*:p57nc0re]Alain Prost[*:p57nc0re]Michael Schumacher Now it may not happen overnight but with Mercedes resources and commitment, I can see Lewis adding his name to that list.
puddy Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 i have to agree with you there harris! why would lewis leave mclaren to drive for a sub optimal team just scraping the top ten! money thats why! maybe hes saving up for a 2.2 all steel pinto powered mk1! Or if he manages to get a Ferarri drive one day,he could put a deposit down on 2.5 Millington Anyway, all this talk of who is gonna win today is obvious, the man that has won the most grand prix's in the last 20 + years................... Adrian Newey. puddy
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Looks like the best man won!!! 3 world championships under your belt at 25 can't be bad can it?
frankthefencer Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 I think he deserves it. Today he didn't give up. Got wacked from behind, spun, damaged car and then got on with from last place to overtake and race in tricky conditions . A lot of drivers would have given up. Three times champion at 25? You don't get given that!!!
Admin Vista Posted November 25, 2012 Author Admin Report Posted November 25, 2012 Looks like the best man won!!! Indeed he did...................Jenson Button . I still feel Alonso would have been a more deserving champion this year given what he's achieved with an inferior car, but it's the points that count. How different it might all have been if Alonso and Hamilton hadn't been taken out a couple of times each over the season though.
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Yea red bull may have had the best car in the 2nd half of the season but when it rains you can throw that all out the window! It sorts the men out from the boys and the real talent shines through! Nuff Sed
