Admin Vista Posted February 4, 2013 Admin Report Posted February 4, 2013 I came across these while "rummaging" around the net. A Holbay cam cover for the YB like the BD covers that were knocked up for the Zetec a few years back. Now whilst I like the look of them (a lot) I don't really see the need for them, especially at the price they're asking. The BD cam cover for the zetec greatly improved the Old Skool look of a modern engine in a classic ford................but the YB is already an old skool engine and its cam cover looks pretty good under the bonnet of any classic ford anyway. So, £380 + VAT & carriage and another £80 on top for the centre plate? I just don't see it. Thoughts? http://www.smithandjonesengineering.co.uk/accessories.html
willsy Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 I like it Scott but agreed, that is ridiculous
windymiller Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 Each to their own, but I personally feel the YB looks too modern in most OSF's which are pre-80's/90's while the YB always feels post-80's/90's (yes, I know the dates overlap..) A friend has an NA YB cam-cover he's done entirely in crinkle-black, which I think really suits the car - a Mk2 RS2000. Feels more 'of the time', like the BDA cam-cover. I personally hate stuff like Union Jacks, St Georges' or Scotish cross's airbrushed onto cam covers - all very american hot-rod or Euro-scene. Just keep it nice and simple: black or silver if it's pressed steel, or otherwise a nice crinkle-black.

Or Gold You're right though, each to their own. Much as I like that Holbay cover I'm happy enough with the YB look under the bonnet not to want to shell out that sort of cash on cosmetics.
windymiller Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 Nasty... Nice... Both IMHO of course!
rallyesport04 Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 im the opposite i hate crinkle paint the red yb cover is ledgendry i would never change it or deface it the only thing that might tempt me maybe painting it the same blue as the mk1 rs1600 bd i also love seeing airbrushed union jacks it patrotic my tool boox has a huge st george flag on it with the england fans in the background love it or hate it i personaly love it
Tom E Cropp Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 I think the yb cover looks great as it is! So iconic and just shouts power!

windymiller Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 Know it's not a YB, but it looks the part done black, as does the catch tank. Loads of polished stuff in the engine bay reminds me of my darker Escort RST days and all those show 'n shine boys at the Ford shows!

The Transplanter Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 How close is that mani to the loom
Andy44Boz Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 I love the crinkle black, but only if there's carbs hanging off the side With a sod off great turbo and all the electronics etc that go with it, an older looking cam cover pales into insignificance IMO.
