Mickey Stewart Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 What you reckon on this car, anyone know it? http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C349692
Admin Vista Posted February 9, 2013 Admin Report Posted February 9, 2013 Don't know it and can't comment on its authenticity from viewing the pics on my phone. It does look very nice though. Have you been in touch with the AVO club to ask about it? What sort of car are you after? Standard? Modded? I got the impression from a previous post of yours that you were after a road legal project car?

SmokeEm Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 Not worth 24k IMHO. It is 'Just' a resto after all
frankthefencer Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 Nice car but proper money. Look we all know to get a car to that standard takes a lot of money. Personally I think 24k is a bit much however around 20k I think is acceptable as long as its genuine and a real pukka job.
Top Ghia Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 Hmmmmmm Look carefully at the drivers door, It doesn't sit flush with the sill or the rear quarter.I would not accept that if it were my 24K.
Mickey Stewart Posted February 9, 2013 Author Report Posted February 9, 2013 21k is the selling price - thinking about it....
Mickey Stewart Posted February 10, 2013 Author Report Posted February 10, 2013 I do have a concern as car not recognised by the avo and when the registration number is put into the dvla or a Hpi checker it states "car not recognised" I am going to look at another rs2000 on Tuesday night, 10k less but will need work
Chris standage Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 All I can tell you after a quick search is that the reg was registered in Preston after the 1st of August 1973, so the plate belongs to sonething from then, can't say wether it belongs to a ford or not though.

Mickey Stewart Posted February 10, 2013 Author Report Posted February 10, 2013 I can see that but im sure this is a easy repair, the rest of the car looks fine, pictures of the logbook etc attached. looks genuine to me???
Mickey Stewart Posted February 10, 2013 Author Report Posted February 10, 2013 The picture of the drivers door is not shut correctly which is why it looks like not lining up
Mickey Stewart Posted February 10, 2013 Author Report Posted February 10, 2013 Who is paul andrews from reading then??
katana Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 Two minor things - the VIN plate looks brand new - even if the car is restored why re-new the plate? And the V5 states 2000cc for engine capacity - should be 1993 ! Its a good looking car, no mistake but that is top dollar money and the interior switches and seat frames etc. just don't justify it IMHO!
sidpf1972 Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 chassis number should start with a * and end in a * thats what i would be looking at i suppose it could of been restamped but wouldnt you restamp the * also??
frankthefencer Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 Loads of people renew the vin plate when doing a restoration so it's very common place and not a shocker . If you are comfortable with the car and you think it's genuine then it's your choice. 20k for a mint rs2000 isn't over the top as long as its correct and been done properly. What you don't want is a 20k disaster .
Top Ghia Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 That drivers door seems to fit fine at the top.And would you want to start making repairs to a car you paid 20+K for? I wouldn't. If it not known to AVO ask yourself why not. Have you tried to contact the previous owner for any more info?

That's not an original strut top with the number stamped in without the star at the beginning and end. Doesn't mean it's not a genuine car though
Mickey Stewart Posted February 11, 2013 Author Report Posted February 11, 2013 Had a good chat with the seller today, I am not convinced but see what you think: 1. Seller stated it is 2000 capacity on logbook not 1993 as it depends where the car was built (Spain, Germany or England) - is this true?? 2. No history what so ever with the car, only recent MOT 3. No pictures of resto 4. Car was a barn find 2 years ago and not been used for 15 years 5. AVO do not know car but can confirm that the reg and VIN plate are from a RS2000 I could be being picky but I am spending a lot of money on a car that can not be 100% confirmed. Think I might hold out for the right one, just looks so nice though.......
SmokeEm Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 you would be a proper mug if you buy that story!
Admin Vista Posted February 11, 2013 Admin Report Posted February 11, 2013 you would be a proper mug if you buy that story! + 1
Mickey Stewart Posted February 11, 2013 Author Report Posted February 11, 2013 That's one thing I am not, hence why lots of questions have been asked etc etc Shame as car is nice, will carry on looking
